Plus, if you nuke any one of them, guaranteed you're getting hit next. Putin might not care about that, but maybe some in his circle would.

Yeah, you're right, it's not surprising. He is someone who is in all likelihood going to return to Russia once he retires. His comments have to be toned down.
But what is surprising, is the lack of protests from the Russian community OUTSIDE of Russia. How are there no rallies of Russian immigrants living in the US, Germany, Israel, Canada, etc?
Why are these people quiet?!

Maybe a stupid question, but how much preparation is involved in launching an ICBM equipped with a nuclear warhead? Would NATO be able to know that something is up and scramble jets to take care of the threat before it is launched?

The Galician Ukrainians are arguably the most patriotic. They would be the last to desert Ukraine, even in the face of grave danger.

No, they can be launched within minutes of an order.

This is awesome.
Not like there aren't ways around is, but such a popular website sending messages like that is great. Russians are being inundated with negative messaging because of this.

I know there are individuals around here with a lot more military knowledge than myself. I thought it would be an interesting question to pose and discuss.
If you don't know the answer, then check your attitude boomer.

Just FYI putting a link in NSFW tags isn't going to help when it comes to work filters; the content inside the NSFW tags is loaded when you load the page, it's just hidden inside the browser.
If you're reading this... it's already too late!

You also seem confused about the speed and range of a fighter jet.

I don't think it'd be a big issue, a company wouldn't be able to see what's in the webpage itself anyway (including any offensive words), and the data is coming from twitter (and if someone is browsing CP from work they likely already know if it's ok to view twitter through work), so I think it's fine.

I believe the prevailing thought is that Putin will leave Western Ukraine alone - would be extremely difficult for him to have any control over it for long term.

Without hacking into the Russian intelligence/computer programs, would there be a way to know if they launched anything until afterwards?
Under the old models, Mutually Assured Destruction, was the goal. The USSR and the USA had agreements not to put in various nuclear missile defence systems, as the thinking was no one would start a war if it was a certainty both sides would be wiped out.
The USA does currently have some anti-missile defence systems that can counteract ICBMs. Presumably they would begin to detect them after launch, via tracking heat signatures. They are far from 100% effective though, and I don't think anyone wants to test their efficacy.
Does anyone know how the USA currently sits on their anti-ICBM capabilities? That technology seems to change daily.
