With all the ammonia and fertilizer Ukraine produces, they should start setting up some massive road side bombs in these corridors.

Canada I would argue is fairly weak from a artillary standpoint, and we lack mobility, basing our artillary around towed artillary. Those types of guns don't last long in an environment with strong counter battery.

Canada's army has no real air protection, its just a ridiculous over sight. We can't protect ourselves from air strikes.

From a aircraft perspective. The F-18's are old and tired, and they won't last long in a modern environment.

From a command and control perspective we're a generation behind on our digital environment.

Sure the American's might lend us weapons,

This is something at least. I was worried we'd be reading about the fall of Kyiv this evening.
Given the discrepancy in air power, the inability of the Russians to achieve full air superiority is concerning for their forces on the ground. Gives the Ukrainians a ton more latitude when it comes to fighting those armoured columns.

Clearly diplomacy doesn't work.
We don't need diplomacy.

Its called energy warfare. Cut off Russian oil & gas and the Russia problem goes away.

Canada is in an unique position to accomplish this. We just choose not too.

The official party line is to make molotov cocktails:

Really wonder if the 2800 Russian casualties number so far is correct, because if that is the case, Russia is going to be sending back a lot of body bags the next week.

I doubt it is. Russia is also talking about Ukraine soliders who just gave up and will get to go home when the fighting is over. Both sides are trying to get propaganda out there.

And since everyone seemed to care about this. Here's Ovi's comments:
Quote:
"It's a hard situation. I have family back in Russia and it is scary moments," Ovechkin said. "But we can't do anything. We just hope it going to be end soon and everything is going to be all right."

He added: "Please, no more war. It doesn't matter who is in the war — Russia, Ukraine, different countries — I think we live in a world, like, we have to live in peace and a great world."
Quote:
When asked if he supports Putin as the president leads the invasion of Ukraine, Ovechkin reiterated how he hopes the attack ends soon.

"Well, he is my president. But how I said, I am not in politics. I am an athlete and you know, how I said, I hope everything is going to be done soon," Ovechkin said. "It's (a) hard situation right now for both sides and everything. Everything I hope is going to end. I'm not in control of this situation."

That is a piss poor response from Ovechkin. I hoped he would have used stronger terms.

I thought it was fine. He doesn't want war on either side. He wants peace and the world to be a great place. He's just an athlete and has no say.

It was incredibly stupid to seek out his opinion anyways, and not sure why so many people were so eager to hear it.

His family is in Russia, it's his home and where he wants to return to when his career is over in a few years, there are many things you can hold against the man but this isnt one of them

Asking for "no more war" when Putin is telling the whole nation that the war is "absolutely needed" is about as much, as you can get from Ovechkin, who knows Putin personally. Also Putin did a lot for hockey in Russia so it must be a bit awkward for Ovie.

If banning Russian banks from accessing SWIFT was going to result in the "de-dollarization" of international monetary trade, either the hegemony of the USD is vastly overstated in the first place or Russia's economy is a hell of a lot bigger than it's made out to be. Frankly I think the idea that the US would discourage the SWIFT ban because of this latent fear of other countries abandoning dollars for yuan is an absurd stretch.

He's one of the most prominent Russians and many wonder what Russians in general think of this.

Isn’t the issue more that it strengthens China simply by pushing Russia into their laps for all banking matters?
