Do you want a nuke dropped on your head? The West will not attack back because no one wants to launch a nuclear holocaust.

But it is a valid question.

How does the West react to this and future actions like this from Russia (I believe there will be more) & China (I believe they are seeing what the West does).

We can't just sit and watch this type of thing happen.

Clearly diplomacy doesn't work.

They absolutely will let Ukraine fall without military intervention. We are not sending troops to die for Ukraine ever

Translation from Ukrainian speakers/ cyrillic readers appreciated. It appears Zelenskyy himself is in the streets in uniform ready to fight.

Cold War 2.0.

Hopefully Canada takes its role a bit more seriously now.

The tripwires in the Baltic countries, plus the introduction of Sweden and Finland into NATO, is going to require a lot more serious attention from the alliance.

Yep, valid question. And it's clearly been answered the last two days. Nothing.

The West cannot afford to intervene and almost certainly unleash MAD.

Hopefully we can cripple Russia's economy into submission.

So at what point does Canada send troops then? Poland? Latvia? We'd be obligated to at that point... but then WW3 is started by then.

it is a valid question for sure. I think it'll rather be a scenario where the aim is to isolate Russia and ruin their economy. But there won't be an armed response unless Putin doesn't stop after Ukraine.

I didn't see a conventional ground war in Europe in our lifetimes happening, yet here we are.

Putin is a mad man. Maybe he was secretly diagnosed with terminal cancer and literally doesn't care anymore. Maybe he wants to go down in history as the one man who successfully attacked the US mainland with nukes.

I mean, regardless of how his life unfolds at this point, this guy deserves a major motion picture. His story is too unbelievable for real life

We are sending troops.

We are bolstering our presence in the Baltic states, Latvia specifically I think. I mean it is gonna take them a month to get there.....

Canada is sending an additional 460 troops to reinforce the NATO military alliance in eastern Europe, Trudeau said. That includes a 100-soldier artillery unit to Latvia, which will join 540 other Armed Forces members leading a NATO battlegroup in the Baltic state.

A Canadian frigate, the HMCS Halifax, and a CP-140 Aurora patrol plane are also being deployed to eastern Europe, with all the promised forces expected in theatre by the end of March.

our chancellor phoned him yesterday and apparently Zelensky flat out told him that he has no idea how much longer he'd be alive. Chilling stuff.

Can the West isolate Russia?

I suspect China is more than happy to take the space of the West in Russia's economy.

I guess we would disagree on our opinions on Putin and his cronies. I don't think he's "mad" in the sense he is willing to risk his life and the life of millions to make some weird point.

Again, it's obviously a big risk that NATO isnt willing to take

With the Russian counter-battery capabilities, I wouldn't want to be one of the guys crewing our guns. Just like everything, cannot believe we got rid of our SPGs.

I really commend this guy's bravery but if you are gonna risk your life wouldn't you do it more effectively?

We've already had one tank running over a civilian today.
