One thing seems certain at this point, anyone who opens up by posting about how they're a long time lurker but this is their first post should not be trusted. Lol. Pretty sure the last one opened with a similar post too. I don't even remember the name they used that time anymore. Could be the same person doing the yikes account though.
Anyways. Ignored, again.
I don't want to see Dube go, but if we're talking about adding another player up front his salary seems like the easiest/ most obvious to move. For someone like Forsberg that could make sense. Otherwise I am pretty happy where we are at.

Blue Jackets taking calls on Texier:
https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/ice-bre...tension-talks/
Quote:
Texier, 22, has proven to be an impact player in Columbus. He’s collected 11 goals in 36 games this year, which is a 25-goal pace of 82 full games. He arrived on the scene as a 19-year-old, jumping right into the Stanley Cup playoff fray, and gradually earned the trust of John Tortorella. Texier has no shortage of skill and flash and dash.
The Blue Jackets are believed to be asking for a first-round pick for Texier as well as a roster player.
It’s going to be fascinating to see how active GM Jarmo Kekalainen is at the deadline attempting to reshape the Blue Jackets, by moving out pending free agents, by making ‘hockey trades’ and maybe even getting involved as a third-party broker in retained salary transactions utilizing Columbus’ cap space.

...
I feel like that package plus a little more would have been enough for Forsberg and I’d much rather have Forsberg than Toffoli with him being younger at 27 and a more prolific scorer. However, my target would have been Laine IF he was available. My god he would have made our top 6 absolutely deadly and he’d be an RFA after this season and a piece of our core going forwards. But instead, we have big bad Toffoli who definitely isn’t going to put us over the top if we end up playing a team like Colorado in the playoffs, and I wouldn’t be surprised if MacKinnon just slaps us around again like last time. I wouldn’t even be surprised if we’re out first round, because we just cant seem to get out of the first round. However, the Sutter effect is different and gives me some hope with his system, which is why I was hoping Treliving would go “all in” and not waste a 1st on an inconsistent scorer. I hope I'm wrong, but Toffoli just doesn't do it for me.

Our package makes no sense for Forsberg (NAS is a playoff team with tons of cap space) and definitely wouldn't be enough for Miller or Chychrun. Unlikely Giroux comes here, Hertl's availability tbd. Which leaves Laine as the only plausible option on your list, but he doesn't make much sense for a bunch of reasons ($$$, slotting) and that package doesn't get it done.
Speaking of Laine, I think he could actually make a lot of sense for NAS: Forsberg to a contender for futures; those futures+ for Laine. They've got a bit of a Finnish thing going with Granlund, Saros, and Tolvanen. They've got the cap room, and can either go the QO route or be more comfortable going long-term with Laine since he's 4 years younger.

What about Justin Holl from Toronto? They are trying to shed cap, and he has been a healthy scratch for some reason.
He makes $2m this year and next, 6'4" RHS D, good skater, solid defensively and he is physical. Seems like a Sutter type defenseman. He would be a great fit on the bottom pair. He can play top 4 in a pinch.

He's been a healthy scratch because he's been horrible. And the leaf fans can't wait to get rid of this guy. He's definitely not solid defensively.

Nothing about his numbers suggest he has been horrible. A few too many giveaways, but that's about it.
The problem is they are playing him 20+ mins a night. He isn't a guy that should be playing regularly in your top 4, play him on your bottom pair and you have a very solid defenseman. He can play in your top 4 if you have an injury, but he isn't necessarily a top 4 defenseman.

Leafs traded a 7th round pick and a prospect to get McCann so that Seattle would take McCann over any of the other exposed players.
In essence the Leafs traded a 7th and B prospect for Seattle to not take a player from them, which IMO was a smart move.

Get Coleman out of those bad examples for one thing...he is a MAJOR part of this first place team. Toffoli is signed for two more seasons after this one on a great contract you are acting like it's a rental like other players you are mentioning. There are also no trade lists you are totally ignoring.
Also, there is more to hockey than scoring. Toffoli contributes far more to winning than a guy like PL. Have any of your amazing players won anything?
Waste a first lol, what a ridiculous take
|
Coleman is absolutely a part of those examples. He’s also on the wrong side of 30, and he’s not worth nearly $5 million a year for 6 more seasons. That contract will be horrible after the next 2-3 years.
And Toffoli was on a 19 goal pace this season lol. See? Inconsistent. Just because he’s signed for 2 more years doesn’t make it a better deal considering his inconsistency, and just because he won a cup with a team that was led by guys like Kopitar, Doughty, Carter, Williams, Quick, etc, doesn’t mean he’s a certified winner. What does he contribute more to winning than the guys I mentioned? Those guys actually have some star power to their name, and for good reason. There’s nothing special about Toffoli to justify a 1st round pick and have him play on the 3rd line, as that is an absolutely a waste. He’s slow and so are Monahan and Lucic on the 3rd line. A 2nd for him in that package would have been sufficient, especially if he’s not in our top 6. He’s a decent piece, but slow and going on the wrong side of 30 soon and very inconsistent, thus not worth a 1st as he doesn’t put us over the top to justify the 1st but for some reason you guys were absolutely in love with the thought of getting him regardless of what it took. So yes, it’s a waste of a 1st which should be used to get a star player that puts us over the top and can play in our top 6, not play on the 3rd line with 12 minutes a game.

Lol Coleman is actually born on November 28th… so it isn’t even 6 months past his bday… so technically he’s on the right side of 30… years old… he’s 30 years old lol. Wrong side of 30 hahaha.

Well he wasn't available for a 2nd...and ask Darryl about the things other than scoring Toffoli does that makes him a winner. Besides the 2 cups he was huge in Montreal's run to the finals.
JT Miller? IF he actually gets traded its going to be for a lot not a late 1st.
And Forsberg scored 12 last season, he also isn't available for a late 1st
What "star" player is available for a late first again? and as usual you ignore the CAP and no trade lists
Patrick Laine for example makes 7.5M is an RFA and they are not trading him for a late first
Last season a late first=Nick Foligno

He was 29, now he is 30 and next year he'll be 31. That makes him on the right side of 30. Before he turned 30 he was on the left side of 30. Where is the "wrong" talk coming from? Is it wrong to be right? Or left? I'm confused.

I was responding to the top part of AT77 post just above where he called Coleman being on the wrong side of 30 which was laughable to me because he’s not even half way into being 30. I always took that saying as being into the latter part of the decade ‘he’s on the wrong side of 30’ means he’s past 35 or whatever. My poor attempt at humour honestly Buff apologies for the confusion!
