Dirty. Trying to stop an ENG in a 6-3 game. If he made head contact he may be gone for a while (again).

Wait, how is that charging? he didn't take a stride for a full 2 seconds before making contact with the player who still had the puck

Distance travelled to make the hit basically.
Not too dissimilar to Scheifele's hit and suspension in the playoffs on Evans. Technically he wasn't striding into the hit and they were skating in the same direction, but the spirit of the charging rule applies I would say.
I still loved Bennett's hit.

Unnecessary and stupid by Bennett IMO
Type of hit is uncalled for, has no benefit except for maybe hurting a rookie, and just lacks respect.
Same thing as when Scheifele railroaded Evans, at least you had the excuse of playoffs in that game.

Yeah, didn’t notice it was an 18 year old until a second look. I don’t think he was scoring from there anyway - had to shoot past 3 guys.

Games not over.
Bennett saved a goal.
Play till the final whistle.
Find it weird that people want players to just give up when there's time left because the game is likely out of hand.

Go block the shot.
No need to try to kill a guy at that point of the game.
Your sudden love affair with everything Bennett does is hilarious, considering you were happy and applauded the deal when he was moved.

Reminds me of the hit he laid late in the San Jose game on Radim Simek with the Flames when the refs missed a blatant call and let the game get out of hand.

I don’t think he saved a goal. And by taking the penalty he ensured the defeat.

I liked the deal because of Bennett's perceived value, but was always a massive Bennett supporter prior to the trade.
It's on the 18-year old rookie Sillinger to keep his head up and not expect guys to take it easy on you because of the game situation. Good learning experience.
Side note, this hit also reminds me of Bennett's monstrous hit on Simek in the final minute of the New Years Eve game a couple years ago.
Was lucky enough to be at that game and that was the loudest the Dome got that entire night despite the Flames running up the score

This is an illegal hit, if it was clean you might have a point

Sillinger was going for the empty net. Simple as that.
Also, in terms of the penalty, the ref staring right at the play 2 feet away didn't even raise his hand to call a penalty initially.
It wasn't until after the dust up that the refs decided to call a penalty, likely because of the score

Has this always been the case? Wild
I don't particularly like the hit, but I find it somewhat odd a player is exempt from being hit by virtue of a measure of distance from another player when they gain possession of the puck. Sillinger had a lifetime to see Bennett (who was the first panther back after Ekblad got walked) but was staring at the puck for several seconds. I can agree it was pretty unnecessary, but I'd probably be making that hit too (not that I could ever in my life exert that amount of force in a check without literally skating top speed into it though)

There was a D at the net ready to block it, Sillinger was way over by the boards at a bad angle. And Bennett could have gotten a stick on it as well. Note, this wasn’t some big push by the Panthers. They’d just given up an ENG to make it a 3 goal deficit.
And a penalty was called by the guy who saw the whole play.

That’s the big thing too…it’s not clean. This angle is a better view.
Bennett took a bad line to the hit and had to almost closeline Sillinger to catch him.

So you think it's on Bennett to know that a D is there to potentially block it? Lol he's the closest guy to the puck.
Find it hilarious that we're hating on a player for not giving up.
You can literally see in the video provided that the ref didn't raise his hand at all, and that the commentators even said as much that there was no original penalty call

Interesting that when Schiefele did it in a playoff game he received death threats and 4 games.

Maybe I'm a little old school, but I really don't see a heck of a lot dirty with that hit, other than the time left on the clock and the score.
