The best way to end the bickering is to add another comment when the bickering ends. This I know.

I think the point people were making, and an astute one is that, is that no matter what you're feeling or what you, personally, have at stake, hockey players and otherwise innocent civilians do not belong in the crosshairs. It's pointless, for one, as they will not solve anything, and in the case of Ovechkin with family in Russia, you're essentially demanding he endanger his family with a statement that will hold no weight and make no difference to anyone in the world with the power to change this.

Save your anger for the politicians.

Back on topic - Translating Zelenski's speech said some interesting things. It's my translation and my Ukranian is a bit rusty.

Today, I asked 27 leaders in Europe, if Ukraine is going to be a part of NATO, I asked directly. Everyone is scared. No one answers, but we're not scared of anything. We're not scared of Russia. We're not scared of talking to Russia, talk about everything: the guarantees of the safety and security of our country, and neutral status(As we're not in NATO as it is), however which guarantees are we going to have in return?

He also mentioned that Ukraine has lost 137 soldiers today, including 10 officers. 316 soldiers are injured.

No. Biden has said time and time again there will be no troops on the ground.

The best thing we can hope for is the Ukrainians hold their own, and the pressure you are starting to see from Russian citizens on top of mass Russian casualties causes Putin to back down.

Apparently the moral amongst Russian troops is extremely low as well. Maybe they give up on Putin. Only a dream I know, but let’s hope.

Well doesn't help that a lot of the invading troops were conscripts that don't want to be there and were told this entire thing was a drill. Explains that defection of the Russian recon platoon earlier in the day.

Russian soldiers from all across the country were deceived into heading to the Ukrainian border, and some were beaten if they resisted, according to the Committee of Soldiers’ Mothers, a Russian non-governmental organization that works to expose human rights violations within the military.

The group is reportedly preparing a complaint for the Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office alleging that their sons only recently joined the military as conscripts and were told they were going to the border with Ukraine for drills. But their statuses were then abruptly changed to contract soldiers— a role for those with more combat and training experience—and they were suddenly thrust into war.

“They are switching entire regiments to contract [soldiers,] although the guys did not submit any formal requests for this, and took no such initiative. There are instances of physical violence, and beatings of those who refuse to become contract soldiers. And after that it’s completely unknown [what happens to them], because they take away their phones,” Andrei Kurochkin, the deputy chairman of the group, told Takie Dela.
