Yeah, if they lose Zadorov because of price I’m OK with it. I don’t think the “distraction” issue is real under Sutter. The only caveat I’d have is if Tkachuk is staying and if there really is bad blood then no. Those are two big ifs.

That's my thinking. Gio returns on a cheap one or two year deal. Not the worst thing as in a bottom pair role you could do a lot worse as he's having a fair season as that team is actually played well defensively and have been let down by substandard goaltending.

I have not heard about a bad blood rumor between Chucky and Gio. Tkachuk was incredibly complimentary of Gio in lead up to the game Saturday. Also the tweet where people thought Tkachuk said something to Gio it sure sounds like the comment was “welcome back”

I think it's based on the stuff around Tkachuk last year when he blew up over the Muzzin incident, and reports were that the Flames leadership told Tkachuk to stop over-reacting to things basically.
Granted I don't think the reality was as severe as the media portrayed it to be, but that's probably where this suggestion came from with Gio being the captain at that time and all.

He does so many things right and so few things wrong.

I hesitate to name him captain until he shows his worth in the playoffs. He's been as big a disappearing act as anyone. But he does make sense.

Fair comment, but if the metric is playoff worth, the list is near nonexistent for me.

Yeah, it was from the Muzzin thing and I don’t believe it myself. Though Hrudey thought there was some extra oomph by Gio in the end of game stuff against the Kraken.

By this metric, Gio should never have been named Captain.
Dude was an absolute playoff dud his entire Flames career.

Its not like Iggy had a ton of playoff success other than that one year either
He hadn't even made the playoffs when he was named captain

But the Flames hadn't made the playoffs in 9 years and he was by far the best player on the team.

I give it to Tkachuk if he signs long term. Otherwise no captain this year

I don't think Kipper was even on the team when Iggy was named captain though was he? (not that a goalie, or esp Kipper was going to be captain anyways and I know you aren't implying that)

Why mess with a good thing? No C for this season.
Only the guys in the room know who the true leaders are and who the C should be, So I have no Idea.
As far as Gio Coming back, I hope not, The team culture appears to have changed and would not risk anything that might cause them to slide back in to the old ways. But what do I know, I also felt that Iggy was here 2 years to many.
on a side note: I wonder who Tkachuk's mom was referring to when she hinted that some Players on the team did not care about winning. (or something about like that)

I have no doubt if Tkachuk extends long term he is going to wear the C. He toned down the antics this year, his Dad and brother were/are captains so no doubt Matthew wants this.

No, it was about 04 (you have to read the post I quoted and those one it responded to as well). That said, you could toss a coin between those two in 04.
Kipper was definitely on the team when Iggy was named captain though.

I know I'm just splitting hairs here, but was he really? I 'm sure Iggy was named to start 03-04 and we acquired Kipper in November of that season. am I wrong?
anyways I'll stand by my irrelevant point that Iggy was by far the best player on the team when he was named Captain
I also agree that those 2 players were 1a/1b and everyone else was a distant 5 in the 04 run
