Isn't the 2023 1st rounder already off the table for any offer since it's a conditional/potential part of the Toffoli trade?

This is Oilers fan level of delusional homerism here.
One year of Tkachuk is not bringing back a return like that. Dorion is an idiot but even he wouldn't trade Batherson alone for Tkachuk considering their contract status.
Look for something closer to the Mark Stone or Ryan O'Reilly trades in return.

That's why Calgary would likely have to wait until the off season to even discuss the possibility.
That condition is based on a monumental collapse of epic proportions.
That being said, they could attempt to offer two 2nds and another key prospect instead.

Also potentially how the Flames were going to fit Chiarot:

One thing that makes Ben Chiarot so appealing as a trade deadline target? Montreal is willing to retain some of his $3.5-million cap hit in a deal

They can work an extra condition. It is pretty much guaranteed the Flames are not going to finish bottom 10 this season, so the condition is going to be met and the pick transferred this season.

Ironic, considering it was structured off an article from an Ottawa fanboy.
My take on it is the deal would be made based on Tkachuk signing long-term in Ottawa. It would not be a one year deal. No one makes that deal on a one year term. But if you get him for multiple years, that's a solid deal and gives Ottawa a pair of actual stars to build around.

If Backs is out any length of time. Might need to get the rolodex out.

Real Ottawa fanboy. He's a Leafs fan who, like all HockeyWriters.com writers, aspires one day to work for Eklund.

If Tkachuk is only looking to sign long term one place, that doesn't increase his value that to more than what Buffalo got for Eichel.
There will not be a huge market of teams looking to deal elite prospects and young players to pay Tkachuk $9M for one season.
Ottawa isn't going to move Batherson so that they can pay Tkachuk, a comparable player, $4M more a season. Plus give up one of the top prospects in the league.

Potential chemistry between biological brothers has to count for something.
Also, the marketability of the Chucky brothers.

Talk about homer glasses. Tkachuk is 5 months older than Batherson
Batherson 87pts in 131 games. 36 career goals
Tkachuk 334pts in 398 games.
Comparable player? What a joke

He's good enough for Toronto! Looks like he will start with the Marlies.

ESPN's article on available players:
https://www.espn.com/nhl/insider/ins...lies-available
They suggest that Cal Clutterbuck, Zach Sanford, and Johan Larsson would be fits for the Flames.

Johan Larsson is my preferred out of those three. Swedish, seems like he thrives in a bottom 6 role and maintains a relatively even game. ~.5ppg in the desert this year too so might be able to chip in surprise offense here or there.

There was a reasonable contingent of people on this board who wanted to trade him at the beginning of this season and didn't think we could win with him. It was obviously a huge whiff by ESPN, but not even our fan base can be absolved of the shame we should all feel for not heaping praise on to this man.

Speak for yourself, I remember feeling like I was alone on some desolate planet trying to defend Gaudreau. I remember thinking, everyone here is nuts, why is this guy so under-appreciated on CP?
He’s one of the most talented and skilled game breakers in the league right up there with the best of them and everyone in here is trying to trade him for a Morgan Frost or Travis Konecny.
Thank goodness there are other things to do in life to get away from the madness that is this place sometimes.

Opinions change as new information comes available.
It was a valid question about whether or not Johnny was declining as a player. Because he WAS paying poorly. We weren't heaping praise on him because he wasn't deserving of it.
He's made adjustments to his game, and is playing at a much higher and more consistent level. So now he deserves all the credit and then payout that will come with it.
But that doesn't mean he wasn't playing poorly before. Because he was.
