two more years of Elias at a 4.85 cap hit...that contract is such a steal for this team. Guy is an incredible player.

This caused me to look at the east standings for the first time in awhile. A 10 point spread from the last wild card position to the next team, that's nuts. That same spread in the west takes you from wildcard to the 4th worst team in the conference (San Jose). The east isn't as full as dominant teams as I thought, they just have a large pool of also-rans to beat up on
Also WTF happened to the Islanders? Back-to-back conference finals appearances to 19 points out of the playoffs, did they get completely hammered by injuries or covid?

They're old and they went and got older in the off season.

This one from the Salt mines cracked me up
“Sutter teams often have a 10G winning streak, its uncanny. But they often have slumps too”
You know what else Sutter teams have?
Cups.

I think from 1 to 8 the East is more competitive. Any of those teams especially within the top 5 could beat the other seemingly. Even Washington or Boston could go on a run too. Toronto is the only fraud of that bunch.
In the West it's a pretty clear break after Colorado and Calgary, St.Louis, and Minnesota seem to be the next tier, maybe Vegas if their cheating ways yield results too. But after that I don't think any West team could beat out any of the top 8 in the East. So the West is closer from teams 6 to 13, but mostly because 6-7-8 are not as good.
Seems like other indicators in the Flames game suggests that their points percentage should continue to creep up.

Nashville, LA, Anaheim and Dallas have all shown they can heat up at the perfect time to go on deep playoff runs, any of those 4 in the wildcard spots I'd consider decent darkhorse contenders

Even though they have not been as exciting as some of those blowouts early in the home stand it is nice to see them grind out these close games. Markstrom is playing at a crazy elite level right now and he has reminded me what life was like in the Kipper days when elite goaltending was the expectation for nearly a decade. Lindholm is feeling it right now and having a phenomenal season. He is a legit number 1 C in my opinion and his 2 way game makes him one of the best in the league right now
I remember calling 18/19 a dream season but this year is blowing that out of the water. Coleman and Toffoli have really bolstered the middle 6 compared to last season and all 6 Dmen doing great has this team not missing Gio on the ice at all.
Big difference from this year and 18/19 is the experience behind the bench and on the ice. Multiple cup winners have been added and the team has bought in fully. The talk in the summer was the lack of elite talent on this team and the top line has eliminated those claims this year. Johnny is a legit Hart candidate and Tkachuk is playing like he should have a C on his jersey any day now.

Usually at the end of a win streak a team will play a game or two that they shouldn't win, but still do. Today wasn't that day, but this was a more even game that could have went either way. So hopefully there are a couple more win's left on this streak before it snaps, and that they get right back on winning when the inevitable does happen.

You forgot the Debbie Downer picture and green text
The Flames certainly dont need 4 of every 6 points the rest of the way. Although it would be nice

Boy, this team is something else this year. I can't remember the last time the Flames scored with under 5 minutes left in a tied game to win a game. This team is playing amazing, responsible hockey right now. Nobody is cheating the game and they're getting bounces too.
