Hanifin is a legit top paring dman... probably 3m underpaid. Trading him doesn't make a lick of sense unless you are getting back 3 1sts worth of value and even then

Check back once the Flames are done hockey this year. I doubt either one is done before then.

Y'all are pathetic.
It's not **** it's reality where we cannot keep the entire crew together. Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Lindholm has undeniable and reliable chemistry.

Monahan and Mangiapane are more erratic in their production and if something needs to be sacrificed to keep that top line together, these are the best candidates.

We really need to get these guys locked down.

Expect many more articles and commentary along the lines of this from the the Hockey Writers advocating a trade to OTT (which full disclosure am sure more than just me considered a while back before Chucky totally turned his game around).

The author is clearly a Sens fan, Sanderson is decent but any Tkachuk trade to Ottawa starts with Stutzle.

If that's the case we'll likely see the heading July 1st

Signing - Gaudreau signs with... (insert another team)

Based on what? With the exception of Tavares most players that want to stay where they are do so. Most players prefer to negotiate after the season ends. We heard the the same thing about Stamkos. We heard the same thing about Landeskog just last offseason. Johnny will want as much leverage to get as high a number as he can and with the season he is having that is a good plan. There is a possibility an injury could bring his pace down which would benefit BT to wait and see or if his pace slows down. So it benefits him to wait too. If Gaudreau wants to stay it will get done and I think he does, I am not concerned about Gaudreau at all. I am actually more concerned about Tkachuk than Gaudreau going forward contract wise.

This is not the time for tough negotiations, Treliving needs to sit these guys down and get them signed together before it's too late.
I doubt either will touch negotiations until the offseason.

If there isn't a long term deal for Tkachuk, like 8 years, I wonder if $10M will get it done.

He's having a great season and so is Gaudreau but Tkachuk will be after a big AAV like $11M or more?

Brad Treliving better get this done.

I could see Ottawa being a really good target for the Flames, and Stutzle doesn't even have to be in the mix. I would say you do:

Tkachuk & Valimaki for Batherson, Sanderson, and Sokolov. Call it a day and laugh your way to immediate and future riches.

It all depends on Sanderson - if he turns out, it a great trade. If not, terrible.

But Batherson is a PPG, right shot RW who is locked up for years. And Sokolov is a big LW who could be a good player too.

I would do that trade (depending on what my scouts think of Sanderson, but he's a PPG on UND as a 19 yo Dman)

Batherson would be an incredible replacement for Tkachuk. Big (6'3, 204), can skate, and can finish. Sokolov has huge upside and is a huge player (6'3 222) with skill and finishing ability. Sanderson has number one defenseman written all over him, in the vein of Scott Niedermayer. You get to move out a massive salary and bring in three cost-controlled players that will immediately make the team deeper in skill and size, and give them some salary stability. That would be a win for the Flames. Depth matters more than high priced salaries.

Yeah I'm with Lanny on that one. It really hinges on Tkachuk's intent to sign or not. But if he's not going to that's an incredible return. So much so I don't think it's realistic. I do not think the Sens will put Sanderson on the table for any deal right now. He's too important to their plan. Future #1.

The Sens in all likelihood would only consider that trade if they had a guarantee of Chucky staying there long term. It would probably have to be some kind of trade & sign scenario where he signs something like a 6 year, $9.5 million per year deal to play with his brother in Ottawa until the end of the '27-'28 season, timed up so they hit free agency at the same time and can make a joint decision on where to play next.

A trade in the offseason, involving a Chucky-for-Batherson swap as its centerpiece, would make a ton of sense for both teams. The Tkachuk brothers united on the Sens would be very marketable in a city that has had its troubles selling tickets in recent years. Sens fans would be living the dream of a Tkachuk-Stutzle-Tkachuk top line. Meanwhile, the Flames get an emerging star with a right handed shot at an affordable cap hit, making the loss of Chucky a situation they can deal with.

How likely is it that it actually happens? I have no idea. But it seems like it could.

If it were possible to bet on where a player ends up, I'd put money on Tkachuk ending up in St. Louis. The key tell will be what happens in the off season, if he simply qualifies for a single season that should be all the proof that Treliving needs and he should start doing some shopping. I also think that situation nixes any homerun deals though, no team will be giving up elite prospects for a player that will probably only stick around until he hits UFA
