Stecher grew close to Mangiapane from the World Championships and trains with Lucic.

Stecher was part of the previous Canadian team at the worlds, in 2019, which lost the final 3-1 to Finland in Slovakia. He and Adam Henrique of the Anaheim Ducks were the only returning players from that team.
Unable by COVID restrictions to leave their hotel in Riga except for practices and games, the Canadians spent hours getting to know each other in the players’ lounge, Stecher said.
He became especially close with Mangiapane, the Calgary Flame who surprised everyone but Stecher in the Canadian contingent by calling him “Tony.”
That little-known nickname from the Canucks originated from Stecher’s pro hockey debut with the Utica Comets in 2016. The Toronto Marlies’ game sheet that night erroneously listed him as Tony Strecher. Utica assistant coach Nolan Baumgartner began calling him Tony, and the nickname moved to the Canucks with Stecher when he was promoted to the NHL after only four games in the minors.
Mangiapane learned the nickname from Flames Jacob Markstrom, Chris Tanev and Josh Leivo, all ex-Canucks. To pass time in the bubble, Stecher said he and Mangiapane FaceTimed Tanev and Milan Lucic, the Flame who trains with Stecher in the summer.
“I’ve definitely made a new friend for life,” he said of Mangiapane. “It was awesome that we could connect there for a game-winning goal -- a guy I used to hate playing against when I was in Vancouver.

Not sure if mentioned in here yet, but, Brett Kulak may be good for depth. Knows the organization, they know him and he went on a nice run with MTL last year and I can't imagine too expensive to acquire.

I can't imagine the Flames are looking to get anyone from Philly.

There’s no one who matches what they need at the right price. Braun 50% retained maybe. There are some players who you could deal around if you don’t think you can get a good deal from Mangiapane, but that can wait to offseason.

He’s also an ex-Canuck so we’re probably gonna get him.

Friedman said the Canucks had interest in Zacha and Serivali came out today and said the Devils have liked Boeser for a long time.

And Boeser is an RFA. Gee if only they weren’t paying OEL 8.25.

Weird, because neither of those teams are likely to be sellers. Hockey trade maybe?

Lots of talk surrounding Kapanen lately.
Would be a very solid add imo.

Kapanen would be amazing. There's also talk that the Leafs have made "in-roads" into trading Nick Ritchie. They've also been trying to trade Travis Dermott since last season.

Hmmm. How do the Flames fit Kapanen in?
Some sort of Dube/Kapanen swap with the Flames adding?
I certainly don't see the Flames looking to make any big changes the way the team is looking, and they are at a point now where they can't really add without taking away.

Braun, Yandle, Connauton, and Seeler for D. Only one worth a damn is Braun.
Brassard and Mayhew for Forwards. Yuck.
