The #FlaPanthers are reportedly a “team to watch” in the Claude Giroux sweepstakes per NHL insider Elliotte Friedman.
Good keep him out east away from Colorado.

Florida is making a big add this year for sure. They have been linked to Gio as well

Seeing speculation that the Caps might be going after Jarnkrok.
Friedman wrote in this 32 thoughts that the Caps are looking for forwards and see fits with Seattle and Vancouver.
Jarnkork has a history with Laviolette with their days in Nashville.

The eastern playoff landscape looks more or less locked in. Easier for teams to know if they are buyers or sellers, as opposed to waiting for the trade deadline. I wonder if that means we start seeing more deals in the next couple of weeks.

It feels like the Flames got their guy and will bargain shop the rest of the season. With the buyer/seller market being pretty defined I think the Flames can get some good depth options for a cheap price come the 21st of March

I have heard Gio only wants to either come back here or go to Toronto. If those destinations are not possible he will stay in Seattle.

Here are the reasons I don’t agree with this.
1. Gio does not have a full NMC he needs to submit a list of 19 teams he can be dealt to. He could load them up with all the non-playoff teams and the Leafs/Flames I suppose but I am not sure why he would do that?
2. Gio is 38 so I can’t see why he would refuse to go to a contending team for a playoff run vs being on a garbage expansion team.
3. Only way I believe the above is if the organization is willing to cater to their first year captain over getting the best possible deal (based on the moves Seattle has made I could see this maybe being a possibility).

I'm still hoping the Chiarot interest is only more in our history of driving up value for divisional opponents. He is a player that fails the eye test and the stats test. Interest in him seems pretty baffling to me.
If we need a depth defenseman so badly, Pysyk, or someone from Seattle could surely be had for cheaper and add as much or more.

I wouldn't worry too much about Chiarot. I think the Flames took their best shot at him and couldn't get him included in the Toffoli deal.
Only way it becomes an option again is if other teams drop out and the Flames have the best offer on the table all of a sudden, which seems unlikely at this point if the reported interest is correct.

Jarnkrok doesn't have an NMC, so at least that won't be a hurdle for them.

I'd absolutely love Jarnkrok in Calgary, I think he'd kill it under Darryl. Maybe as a UFA in June if we somehow happen to have cap space lol.

Yeah, if Gio wants to come here or Toronto that opportunity will still be there, if it exists at all, in the offseason. So why not head to a contender. Mind you Calgary and Toronto might be up there. But why not enjoy Florida for a couple months?

According to friedman, Giroux was never an option for us on the market. Putting 2 and 2 together, it is likely Giroux is the top piece he mentioned a couple weeks ago that refuses to go to Canada.
