The projected lineup on the Flames FB page says it will be Dube-Mony-Toffoli

I bet Toffoli and Mony do some magic. Sure Mony has regressed quite a lot for a number of potential reasons. He is not a bad player though. Overpaid currently but that’s another story. People acting like he’s absolute trash and it’s sad to see.

It wasn't that long ago that Monahan and Toffoli could have been 2 pieces of a top line.
I'm not convinced that Monahan is 100% on a downward trend in his career. I think he's undergoing a full HGTV style renovation.
Hopefully those 2 can find some chemistry and confidence together

Ok.
Lucic-Monahan-Mangiapaine 14:20 (1 GF, 0 GA)
The scapegoating of Monahans linemates for his lack of production are over. Yes agreed, Dube hasn't been helping his situation but that's a double edged sword. Monahan hasn't helped Dube or Ritchie at all either. The idea that Monahan kept setting them up for glorious chances they couldn't bury is complete BS.
We all watch the games, we see what Sean Monahan has been about this season. He does get the benefit of doubt for going through hip surgery in the off season but watch him skate. IMO he's skating as well if not better than ever.
In his defense, his advanced stats have been strong of late (as has Dubes) even if they have been sheltered with offensive zone starts and a low quality of competition. He isn't hurting the team with his lack of production due to every other line knocking it out of the park. Adding Toffoli to his wing is freaking exciting.
We all want Sean Monahan to succeed, but to act as if he has zero responsibility for his horrid 5 on 5 production this season is a joke. Toffoli HAS to help right? No more excuses. Lets go Moneyhands!
So excited to watch the game tonight!

For all the defenders of Monahan, this isn't talked about. Also - the best the second line has looked has been when they're not paired with Monahan.
If the team was better with Monahan alongside Mangiapane, he'd be playing with him. Fact is, he's playing down the lineup for a reason and it's not because the coach is picking on him. It's because he's regressed and is not the player he once was. We shall see if flanking a great player with Toffoli helps elevate his game. There's nothing controversial in calling out Monahan's game this season.
And (gasp) yes, criticism can happen when the team is playing well.

Johnny’s complete commitment to playing a 200 ft game and dominating the complete offensive zone ( not exclusively on the perimeter), is why he has become an elite player.
Blaming Monahan or crediting his current line mates for his current success doesn’t paint an accurate picture of Johnny’s huge turnaround and great performances.

No doubt his 200 ft game has improved under Sutter.
Biggest thing I've noticed is the sustainable offensive zone time, though, and that's due in large part to the caliber of his linemates that better compliment his puck possession game. Johnny still drives that for the entire line, but he can play keep away on the cycle with Lindholm and Tkachuk better than he ever did with Monahan, opening up chances for them and the D.
What's always seemed to plague Johnny, especially in playoffs, is the fact his offense almost exclusively came off the rush. With better linemates (and Sutter's influence) the notable change is prolonged pressure off the cycle.

Who's said zero responsibility? But like I said - 1 game with that line, 1 goal (and then Dube was back on it).
I'm wondering why Sutter has put a new acquisition like Toffoli on the 4th line?

This is true. Johnny has improved, the line has improved and the attack has improved. It was way easier to defend before. Quicker zone exits have helped a ton too, less time for the D to set up for Johnny's rush. And yeah, he's still carrying the puck the vast majority of the time. More often to the middle though.

Sutter is the best coach Johnny has ever had (even better than Guy Gaudreau).
Hopefully that translates into Johnny's loyalties come the offseason.

You are CONSTANTLY blaming Monahans season on his linemates. Thats why we keep going back and forth. Or did you forget that?
I'm not the one calling Ruzicka the teams 3rd line center, that was the Flames coach, Darryl Sutter.
Watch Sutters presser about where Toffoli will play today, he explains it all.

LOL - so you think he's going to play with Monahan to "manage his minutes". Okay. Do you also agree with Sutter's sour assessment of the team in the press conference?

IIRC, there was a fair amount of angst here when the Flames drafted Monahan because he wasn't a scorer and was more of a play-maker in junior. Yet, he became quite proficient at scoring in the NHL because he had a very good play-maker on his line. I know it is many years later and a different league but I don't think we should (prematurely) sell him short on his ability to create plays for a shoot-first player like Toffoli.

How dense are you? Sutter doesn't have line numbers. He's ####ing with the media. He has mentioned this hundreds of times probably by now.
Or you know, you could just compare their time on ice over the last 5 games. Or something. Even remote effort, instead of just defaulting to bashing monahan for no reason.
