Thx. Thought Magniapagne was playing LW, maybe that was only with Dubé on the same line.

Toffoli with Ruzicka and Lucic wouldn’t break my heart.

I don't know what you're all talking about. Lists are a great way to clearly communicate information:

Goaltender Interference Rules

1. You can't just be up there and just doin' an interference like that.
1a. Interference is when you
1b. Okay well listen. An interference is when you interfere the
1c. Let me start over
1c-a. The skater is not allowed to do a block to the, uh, goalie, that prohibits the goalie from doing, you know, just trying to save the puck. You can't do that.
1c-b. Once the skater is in the offensive zone, he can't be over here and say to the goalie, like, "I'm gonna get ya! I'm gonna block your view! You better watch your butt!" and then just be like he didn't even do that.
1c-b(1). Like, if you're about to make a goal and then don't leave the crease, you have to still leave the crease. You cannot not avoid the goaltender. Does that make any sense?
1c-b(2). You gotta be, skating motion out of the crease, and then, until you just leave it.
1c-b(2)-a. Okay, well, you can have your stick up here, like this, but then there's the interference you gotta think about.
1c-b(2)-b. Fairuza Interference hasn't been in any movies in forever. I hope she wasn't typecast as that racist lady in American History X.
1c-b(2)-b(i). Oh wait, she was in The Waterboy too! That would be even worse.
1c-b(2)-b(ii). "get in mah bellah" -- Adam Water, "The Waterboy." Haha, classic...
1c-b(3). Okay seriously though. An interference is when the skater makes a movement that, as determined by, when you do a move involving the goalie and the crease...
2) Do not do an interference please.

2022 1st* + 2023 5th + Tyler Pitlick + Emil Henieman for Tyler Toffoli pretty much equate to

2022 1st* + 2023 5th + nobody + nobody for Tyler Toffoli

and the 5th pretty much a nobody unless drafted by the Flames because only the Flames can turn a late draft into good player like Mangiapane

So it's

2022 1st* + nobody + nobody + nobody for Tyler Toffoli

I'd do this trade any day of the week.

I've been getting a bit of an '86 vibe from this team for a while now. That year's Flames had a really hot start, then went into that infamous 11-game losing streak (while fans screamed for Cliff Fletcher to be fired because the team sucked and he was doing nothing). After the team worked out of its slump, and only then, Fletcher made the big trade that brought Joey Mullen to town.

They rode that wave all the way to the finals – and I believe they would have won the Cup that year if they hadn't had so many injuries during the playoffs.

So here's hoping.

Haven't read the thread yet, but just heard the news and came to say WOOHOO! No complaints at all with the cost - expected it to be worse.

Also, this thread was fourth on the list? What? Is the news that old already? (I am travelling, so maybe it is, IDK)

If nothing else his presence will be a bit shot in the arm to the bottom 4 wingers trying to keep their spot in the lineup

Someone has probably posted this kind of info somewhere in this almost 700 post thread, but I can't find it. Here's Tyler Toffoli's various fancy stats.

https://twitter.com/user/status/1493279689103880195

5v5 stats per Moneypuck:
xG/60: 0.65, P/60: 1.25, Corsi 49%, Fenwick 48%, On-ice xG: 48.8%

5v5 stats per Naturalstattrick
xGF%: 49.66% SCF%: 50.79%, HDCF%: 50.0%, PDO: 0.977

Of note, Toffoli's possession stats this season are his lowest in several years. This can quite likely be attributed to how terribly the Canadiens are playing. Toffoli has never finished a season with sub 50% 5v5 corsi or fenwick.

I wanted Claude Giroux, but I'm very very happy we made this trade now, giving us lots of time for Toffoli to work into the lineup and I didn't realize he was under contract at quite a reasonable rate for another two seasons. Add one depth D at the deadline for a 2023 3rd or 4th rounder and let's get this show on the road.

What's more, he has 17 points in his last 18 games. His GA numbers will improve dramatically now that he's playing for this coach and with this team.

I have no doubt that he will be a great fit here and have a very successful tenure as a Flame!

Here's Toffoli's player usage and team-relative results compared to the rest of the Flames.

He has to face off vs top competition with very little offensive zone starts and still comes out ahead. Facing marginally harder minutes than even Backlund/Coleman/Mangiapane.

I guess I am in the minority, I dont love the deal. I think the price was pretty high. I am not a fan of trading 1st Round picks for this group of players. I know they have played well but lets see how it goes I guess.

Man I can't believe this really happened.

On paper this addition fits like the most perfectly fitting glove ever. Unreal.

And that it happened so early too. Dayum.
