Such a sexy lineup!

That's depth (not derpth).

Line 1, 2A, 2B and line John Cena (wompwompwooomp)

I'm interested to see if having a legitimate top 6 forward on his wing can help Monahan find some semblance of his former game again. He has shown small flashes and hasn't looked like a walking disaster so it would be nice to see Monahan get going again.

This trade coming at this time gives Monahan time to work with Toffoli or Coleman or whomever he gets to prove he is what the Flames need at #3 or maybe even #2 center. Perhaps that is a part of the timing? Treliving has improved depth and still has time work out a trade for a better center if Monahan doesn't get any better.

Ritchie gonna earn some sweet dough munching popcorn.

I'm skilled absolutely pumped about this trade! And I absolutely Loathe trading 1st round picks. So that's saying something.

It's been the glaring hole on the roster that tree only non chalantly attempted to fill and then this trade just instantly solves it.

I mean, I can't find a single negative thing to say about this trade. Unbelievable, I can't believe it really happened.

Good job Tre, now get Jarnkrok too!

Careful with the checklist style responses, that Kipper_3434 guy gets really riled up by them!

Not going to say the Hamonic deal was a good one, it wasn't.

You miss the point though. Yes, it is true that Hamonic had asked for a trade, perferrably to Western Canada. IIRC that did not materialize right away and he ended up staying in NY for another season, or the remainder of it.

Did Treliving have the leverage? well if the case was the Islanders were only talking to the Flames, then maybe but from what I have heard was the Islanders were talking to other teams as well. Meaning the Flames had to beat those other teams offers to get the player. The specific rumor I heard was it was between the Leafs and the Flames and the Leafs offer was a 1st round pick and JVR who was headed into his UFA season. So the price the Flames paid seems commensurate with what the Leafs offer was.

In hindsight, it was a lot to pay and the timing of it in relation to the state of the team was not good. That said you can see what Treliving was trying to do; he wanted a high calibre blue line that was going to be together for a while. Gio-Brodie-Hamilton-Hamonic. You could argue the strategy failed and the timing was not good but the principle behind it was solid.

Yes. This is the real test. FWIW he will def improve. He did with Mangiapane and Lucic when they moved Dube up for a game or two.

I think right now that line is just easy to defend. And Toffoli is no slouch in his own end so an improvement there too.

I have a friend on the Habs who just told me we got a really good player (not that we all didn't know that).

absolutely love the trade for this year, how can you not. Didnt overpay.
But does adding another 4.5 million next year diminish our chances even further of signing both Gaudreau and Tkachuck?
Anyways dont want to derail what looks like a good trade, just thinking about our cap situation heading into next year if both players ask's are 9-10/season.

FWIW the good teams seem to worry about cap later and make their adjustments off season. Zadorov can’t be re-signed for anywhere near what he makes now, for example. You might lose Dube or buy out Monahan or trade him retained. And the cap will increase some, for a change.

What about lists that are both numbers and letters
For instance

1a. I didn't know that lists were so controversial
1b. Are certain lists more controversial than others
2a. Can't we just be happy that we got Toffoli
2b. Can't we just be happy that we aren't Oiler fans
3a. What is going in this thread.
3b. Seriously. What is going on?

1. Now
2. Children
3. Play
4. Nicely
5. With
6. Each
7. Other

Or....

- the
- big
- bad
- greaser
- fans
- may
- complain

Can we return now to an adult discussion about the subject of the forum instead of whining like a bunch of misbegotten 13-year olds?

Sometimes this place....ugh.

I think the theory is that a number imparts a certain sense of "importance" to the item labelled "1" that an item labelled "a" or even "-" does not.

Or something like that.

I love lists personally, and numbering conventions, but then I spend a lot of time reading tax law. What DOES piss me off is people who can't format a list properly in a formal document.

I'm sure that Tyler Toffoli can do that, and if he can't he can score lotsa goals for us instead.

A. As a lawyer that’s how all my arguments are developed.

2. It’s actually a good way to structure it sensibly.

III. Back to Toffoli, what a good trade.

This is what I've been hoping Tre would pull off--Toffoli knows Sutter from L.A. and knows he's coming to a winning environment and getting out of the tire fire the Habs have become. Markstrom and Tanev know how good he was with them in his cup of coffee in Vancouver and his contract is a bargain. This is all win.

Excited for how this shapes up, but I wanted to note that is the first time I've ever seen such depth on the Flames RW. Even extending into the Iginla years it has never seemed like we have had any serious depth into the Top 9. Always just been stop gaps and plugs who have had a good season or two.

Tkachuk
Coleman
Toffoli

How ever you want to stack the lineup on the ice or on paper this team is looking legit.
