Toffoli: “Oh, I know like 10 players and coaches on that team, cool”.
Kane: “Oh, the casino is right next door, cool”.

I've said it already, but pie in the sky is moving Monahan's salary and acquiring a middle 6 centre. Then this team is damn near perfect version of what it could be.

IMO the ideal for this team is keeping Backlund's line intact, call them line 3, and run with Dube - New Centre - Toffoli as your second scoring line.

What we've run into in the past when checking the Backlund line against other team's top line is you neutralize them as a scoring threat, and depth has been too thin to get scoring elsewhere come playoff time.

Will be a nice development if Toffoli rekindles his Ottawa 67's chemistry with Monahan.

IIRC… they also lost virtually all their secondary scoring (Langkow, Bourque, Glencross, Bertuzzi) in the span of two weeks that year and never recovered. The flames were within 2-3 points of Detroit in the standings just before that happened too I think. The flames were an absolute beast of a team right up to that point.

Thats the thing, what box is not checked by this guy?

RHS
RW
Big
Goes to the hard areas
Decent skater
Great hands
Plays PP
Plays PK
Very good in his own end
Leader
Stanley Cup champion

Affordable contract.

He is the very thing you would create if you were able to assemble what a Darryl Sutter player would look like.

He is a really really good hockey player. Not outstanding at any one thing, but does it all quite nicely.

I started banging the TT drum 2 years ago when he was an expiring UFA deadline deal. I think it was FDW and I who went back and forth about him and it was clear he didnt see the player the same way i did.

He may be a little older now but he hasn't lost his abilities. If anything he is more savvy than he was.

This should be a home run acquisition and the funny part is that Montreal comes out with a couple nice pieces too.

Maybe Dallas implodes.

Monahan out, Pavelski in.

I would anoint Flames contenders and it wouldn't be a stretch.

That team would have no weaknesses, aside from Lindholm being a great 1C but not ELITE.

Cammy, Iginla and Jokinen though - a powerplay unit's dream.
They were a top-10 offensive team that year - they could've hung with the Hawks offensively.

The blue line was completely overmatched.

Dion: 24:48 (playing with a hairline hip fracture, concussed at one point in the series as well)
Leopold: 23:10
Aucoin:21:10
Sarich: 18:44
ANDERS ERIKSSON: 18:42 (2 GP)
Vandermeer:16:33
Pardy: 14:51

Toffoli seems like the kind of guy who hasn't enjoyed bouncing around teams these last couple years. With a coach he already knows and a bunch of guys he's friends with hopefully he can can cement himself in the top six and find some stability here.

There's almost certainly an NHLPA directory every player gets.

Zary and Phillips for Pavelski? Anything there?

And Monahan, for the money to make sense.

(Cue 'has to happen now to make sense' joke)

FWIW, Treliving repeated his aversion to rentals in the press conference today.

Exciting aquisition but man that is alot to give up if no salary is retained. Seems like a little less than what we gave up for Hamonic, hopefully this ends better

I think implying that Markstrom is a savior on this team as compared to Kipper wouldn't be fair to what the players are doing in front of their goalie at this point in time.
Oh. OK.
