Default The CalgaryPuck Situp/Crunch Contest

A ripoff from the CalgaryPuck Pushup Contest. I'm actually surprised nobody else has started a similar thread.

Same rules apply for this thread.

I did 300 crunches yesterday so (obviously) the current total is 300.

Here's a question - how do you do a crunch properly that will actually be effective?

I think a crunch is when you raise your head off the ground, with your knees elevated, but your head does not need to come up to your knees.

A situp is when your head comes up to your knees.

Also, I think on both your hands should be clasped behind your head to put more stress on the abs.

lift to 45 degree angle, keep neck in straight line w/back (don't lift or pull it), and resist hard on the way down. don't rush.

Another tip which I've found works for me:

If you work out regularly, do crunches in between sets. I normally do about 9 sets a work out for each body part, and I do two body parts each day (e.g. 9 sets for biceps and 9 sets for back). Doing 35 crunches or so in between sets means you do 35 X 9 + 35 X 9 = 630 crunches after each work out! I find it a lot easier to do it this way, because it changes the focus from say your arms to your abs and vice versa.

I do 160 in reps of 50/50/60 every week night. Coupled with 100 pushups.

No disrespect, and not that I'm not a bit flattered . . . but I'm not into that.

Man these threads are lame. I tried my best to contribute by doing some situps, but all I did was rock myself to sleep.

I knew you were a pencil pusher!

You carry 1/3 of your weight with your abs. Keeping them in good shape is important.
