Gotta start thinking like a contender here and put Monahan on IR in a few weeks and trade for Giroux at the deadline. Monahan returns for the first game of the playoffs.

I like getting this done now, rather than closer to the deadline. Adding Toffoli gives Sutter a bunch of different options that he can try. Right now, you don't want to mess with the lines because they're really clicking. With just under half the season remaining, one of the forward lines will probably cool off and then they can try some different combos and see if there's a fit that works even better.
I seem to remember with the Jokinen trade, it really disrupted a forward group that was starting to get their footing.

Haha! Oh boy...
While if thats the game thats going to be played then its something to think about, but I genuinely think Monahan needs to keep playing. He has to play his way into form.

This is one of those trades that just makes sense - with Toffoli and Ruzicka this team is no longer full of plugs after the top line. We have three very solid lines and a true fourth line.
Maybe I'm a bit too excited but I feel like we've made the jump into contending to come out of the west.

Listening to Lucic and Monahan, this is a guy that is just going to make the team better. He's going to fit and he's going to make an already good team that much better. More dangerous offensively, better defensively, and provide another big body that can play. Really exciting move.

I noticed Treliving specifically referred to him as "unsigned prospect Emil Heinemen".
Goes along with sureLoss' speculation that he maybe wasn't happy being acquired by Calgary.
