University was probably the greatest time of my life, but that period is over and I was ready to move on.
Yeah I hear you man. I just graduated from university in December and have been working now since February.

Go to work, do your stuff and go home.

With school, you're constantly thinking ahead about the thing due next week and the crap due on Friday, or the stupid exam you have in a month. It never freaking stops! You go to school for 6-7 hours a day, study for 6-7 hours throughout the day and sleep for the remaining time (if you're lucky). School is a full-time job for sure!

I do NOT miss university, that's for sure.

I just started school and will be done by October. Personally, I think March is the best time of year to begin training or education because you get the initial excitement of going to school at the beginning and when it wears off the days are getting longer. You get to avoid the winter run down that so many people experience, too.

I say quit school. I know a guy "Willie" who spent a ton of time surfing the internet and never got assignments in, and he dropped out to play online and now he is 25, lives with his parents in a basement suite and works part time at Tim Hortons.

And 40hrs a week turns into 50-60 pretty fast, but I do like getting paid.

Last semester of degree #1 here and I'm having trouble staying motivated.

Unfortunately, I can't just C my way to the finish, because I still need good grades since I'm planning to do a double major and need to get into the business program.

Once I'm officially in, it'll be C+s for a year and a half and 2 degrees at the other end.

I still remember my last semester at university. Well, it was not even 2 years ago, so I better remember. I found it extremely hard to stay focused. There was so much going on. Not just work, but worrying about moving and finding a permanent job. I think I pulled two 72 hour stints with no sleep during the final 2 weeks of classes and exams. I experienced sleep deprivation hallucinations and everything. Good times.

I just finished a three week binge of homework. I set it up this year so I have class every MWF, 5 of them, and then T/TR off... it worked out for my benefit because that always gives me a day inbetween for HW catch up, I was just lucky that I was able to set it up that way.

For three weeks, everyday, I had at least a mid term or assignment or essay or in class presentation, three days I had two. The worst day was a 12 page term paper and a 20 minute in class presentation.. that was last Friday. I handed in my last essay yesterday. I now have one 10% assignment due April 4th and then finals, so I am laughing for this weekend.

But I do feel your pain

School is tough, and there are times when its difficult to stay motivated. I remember after three years of University, I had enough. I had made it into my faculty (Haskayne School of Business), did one semester and found it extremely hard to maintain focus. At the time I was working at a car dealership as a lot attendant cleaning cars. So I decided to take the winter semester off and work full time untill next September.

Well Mid janurary rolls around and I get a call from my girlfriend, telling me she is pregnant. So here I am, I had just dropped out of school and was working full time for $9.50 an hour. Im 21 years old and I just learn I'm about be a father. I think I smoked about 3 packs of cigarrettes that day.

A few months went by and I quickly realized that I could not do what I was doing for a living. Working like a slave, doing someone else's dirty work for peanuts? Give me a break! How was I going to support a kid thoughout his whole life with this crap job?

So I made the decision to go back. It was a tough choice becaue I knew for the next two and a half years, I would be dirt poor. And I was, and I struggled financially through those years. It really made me depressed. I was still working part time for a tyrant of an owner, I had school assignements and papers to complete, and I had a kid to take care of 3 days a week.

But I finished my degree. Now I have a nice house that's mine and a son who lives with me full time. I can afford going on vacations, provide nice things for both myself and my son and I am able to enjoy life.

But those last two years of University were the most challenging in my whole life. It would have been SO much easier to quit everything and find a decent job to help eleveate some of the financial struggles and pressure from school.

But I didn't. I struggled through it. And I didn't do it for the piece of paper, or for the fact that there would be better opportunities for me when I finished (which there obviously were.) I did it because I said I would. I made a promise to myself that I would finish, so I wanted to put my money where my mouth is. To prove it to myself that I could finish something that I started, even though it was a big struggle.

You hear people all the time say, "Oh I could have done that, I just didn't want to." What a load of crap. If you could have odne it, why didn't you?

So you think school is tough? You're probably right. Does is suck sometimes? Absolutely. But the feeling you get when you finish is incredible, and there is nothing quite like it. To say to yourself that you did it in spite of all the struggles you faced is, in my opinion, one of the most valuable lessons you can learn. A great character builder. Now you know that when things get tough in the real world, and they undoubtedly will, you can stick it out.

I'm sitting here in some lab at the UofC for no good reason, sucking back coffee, on about 1.3 hours of sleep.

Ok, I spent 4 years in university and worked 40 hrs a week and commuted from Calgary to Lethbridge for my classes. I graduated with a 3.4 gpa and didn't find school to be difficult at all. What is the big deal. I never got less than 8 hrs sleep a night and never needed extentions for any assignments. I never saw most prime time shows, but I never missed a flames game on tv or the radio. I don't see what the problems is. Are you complainers not smart enough to get these assignments done? I am sure that if you got into a university you aren't mentally ######ed, so what is the problem. Someone please tell me why you can't manage your time like a normal person?

I guess I'm just stupid because I found university challenging.
