The funny thing is that I think Tippet made them more than the sum of their parts. I thought EDM had really improved both their PK and PP since he got there.
There's only so much Tippet could do with the goalies and defense given to him. I'm just disappointed they didn't replace him with Gully.
Holland will move the first rounder for an average goaltender who will proceed to utterly collapse behind that defence.
Would love to see this and I could see this happening within a week. The oilers are probably the only team in the market for a goalie or at least they are the only team desperate for a goalie. But I also think the teams that have decent goalies aren’t looking to trade them… not even rebuilding teams. So I think the oilers will end up overpaying for a bad goalie.
They have just over $7M to sign 8 players for next season. Nothing is going to change. There is no help on the way without dumping one of their no-Hart Trophy winners.
Don't forget 9M+ for Nurse, based on the logic that "Well, he's our #1D, so that means we have to pay him that much, right?" while disregarding the fact that he wouldn't be a #1D on many teams.

Treliving has made some bad moves - but those are generally in hindsight. Smith and Keith moves were instantaneously panned as horrible....and surprise suprise

He would be a 1D on maybe 2 teams in the league. Probably over 50% of the teams in the league he wouldn't be a top 4D. $9.25MM hahahahaha
By Ken Holland you mean Gill from the Simpsons right?
That analogy is bang on
"awww geeeeeeez Ken, well it was a tough day, kinda a funeral feel, y'know, you gotta let these guys go and they packing their bags and its sad, cause you know these guys"
Oof....did you know that Jay Woodcroft was a video coach who worked with Mike Babcock?
Because Kenny sure knows.
Confidence? That was the demeanor of a man who is repeating words seemingly moreso to convince himself.
Its very obvious very quickly.
"Oh. You're not trying to convince me...you're trying to convince you."
That clip around 20:05 when tippet is asked about fixing the goal-tending issue is priceless. You can see he has no answers. That's why he kept bringing up this coaching change being a gut shot. He simply doesn't have anything he can do.
I think sooner rather than later EDM would make a couple of (gut-feeling) desperation trades that will bite them for years.
You know I have noticed his body language as well, he looks frustrated and out of answers. But truly it's up to 97 if he wants to win in the NHL. McDavid is a hockey freak. He's tall, incredibly strong on the puck. can skate like the wind, when he has the puck he does things that no one in the league can do. But he just doesn't care when he doesn't have the puck. We all see it, it's obvious. He has the ability to be a Ryan O'Reilly or a Bergeron and then some. If Johnny Gaudreau can back check on guys twice his size and tilt the ice 5 on 5, then someone with 97s skillset can absolutely do it. So he can be frustrated that his teammates aren't getting it done, or be frustrated with the goalie, of maybe even eventually demand a trade, but right now he is the one wearing the C. He sets the tone, and his bread and butter is PP goal cellys, high speed 1 on 3 drives towards the net that sometimes result in highlight of the year stuff, and he thinks he has done his job. Until he realizes the only thing better than points is wins then he will continue to be frustrated. Not sure what coach will be able to get that out of him, people don't often change.
As to this point I wonder if some of his sadness is finally realizing that with his amazing talent he hasn't led a team to any success at all levels. He made the world junior team because of his talent but the leaders of that team were Sam Reinhart and others. He got his points but whenever Canada was in a tight spot he wasn't counted upon. At the World Cup with Team NA he was the captain and supposed leader but Johnny was the leading scorer and MacKinnon was the best player.
How can Holland take full responsibility for where they are and then fire the coach and assistant coach? Shouldn't he be resigning if he was actually taking full responsibility?
