Still need Monahan out of top 6 IMO. But that’s looking a lot better.

Agree. Give him some wingers that aren’t Brett Ritchie or Dube’s ghost and give them sheltered minutes in a scoring role. Trying to be realistic:
Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman
Pelletier-Monahan-Toffoli
Lucic-Ruzicka-Lewis/whoever
Trade Monahan in the summer.

This is the line up I want. If montreal will take a 1st + dube for toffoli then u got to do it. I have been pulling for Dube for years but we need help now and it just seems out of his grasp.

Would rather Rielly Smith than Toffoli, and he should come cheaper. Promote from within to fill the hole, don’t tie up more cap and roster space with middle of the roster guys. Already have enough guys taking up spots.

Yeesh! No thanks. Expending those kind of assets s top six Center or top top three defence men better be coming back

This would be an absolute brutal trade. That is the type of offer you make for a mid 20’s guy you are signing for 6+ years and not a second line 30 year old for a 2 year run.

Pelletier Poirier and a pick. How high that pick goes depends on how much they retain for Toffoli.

As fans we should probably be prepared to lose a few roster players, a prospect and our 1st if not one or both our 2nds in a deal or deals at the deadline.
(not all of that in one deal obviously)
Not going to get Toffoli or whoever for a 3rd and Pospisil.

teams making a playoff push don't often move players off their roster. I don't see players like Dube or Monahan being moved at the trade deadline.
Picks, prospects, Stockton players are the trade chips, imo

I don’t have an issue with this but it is absolutely crucial if we are blowing high end assets that the return is a position of need( long term top six Center, young top three defence men. If I’m losing Pelletier and first those are the only two assets I would be happy with getting.
If I were in charge I would trade tkachuk, Monahan, Valimaki( I think he has requested a trade behind closed doors) and use those assets to get a Center. If we’re blowing 9 or 10 mil on a player make it a top six Center.
Yes you lose part of one of the best lines in hockey but look at what a boost getting just a few goal from Backlund does to the look of the team.
I see Tkachuk as no different than the Hamilton situation and I think a similar trade will result. What if he goes with a few other assets for a top six Center and a top six right wing. Team looks totally different and better.

I don’t think he costs 2 1st rounders + to get him.

Depends on the targets. I am not sure it is worth keeping Monahan if he is going to be the 4th line center if he can be moved. I also think Dube is a piece the team will include in a trade if it results in a significant upgrade.
This team will only have room for a $5M player at the deadline without moving salary.

Literally pointed out this wouldn't be in one deal. Toffoli could cost any combination of those assets though.
1st, roster player, prospect? Sure.
1st & 2nd? Maybe?
Both 2nds? Unlikely but who knows.

Agreed, you have to add a Hanowski to make that work.

Not sure who was throwing out the 3rd+Pospisil offers so I thought your post was defending the Coronato+Dube+1st for Toffoli offer.
I agree with you that the 2nds, potentially the 1st and guys like Dube and Valimaki will be on the table. I also think right now it will be a buyers market so we will see how it plays out

Montreal is not getting multiple mid to high end assts for Tofolli or any of their players. I also expect Treliving to be extremely careful with the picks he throws around. The Flames have only five picks in the upcoming draft, so I doubt he's going to throw them around like candy. I would expect to see a hockey deal go down, not a trade where the system is gutted for a support level player.

If our 1st is in play, I’d hope/expect it is a high caliber player coming in, ideally with some term not a short term fix.

Hey retaining is expensive. Getting A player of Tofollis caliber for 2 mill a year for this and two more seasons will cost a lot more than just straight up without salary retention. I don’t think that would be a crazy ask.
