Anyone golfed in Mexico? We’re looking at a week long trip in April. Wife doesn’t care where we go. I’d like to play a round while down there… any suggestions?

Mexico Golf Course, in Mexico...
Want to narrow down the location a bit?

Heh I’m easy. I can find a good resort anywhere. I know courses down there are hit and miss.
Huatulco and Cabo probably at the top of the list right now.

Played in and around PV.
It's overpriced and not worth the hassle to bring your clubs.

Cabo is awesome. Courses are ridiculously expensive, but the golf is great. Same can be said for the Yucatan. Some excellent golf courses, but can get pretty expensive fast.
For Cabo, play Quivira, Diamante (Dunes), Querencia, and Cabo Del Sol (Ocean), if you can get on them. Some have restrictions depending on where you stay. You will not be disappointed. For the Yucatan, Mayakoba El Camaleon, Moon Palace (27 holes), and Playa Mujeres were all really nice. Didn't get to play it, but the Cancun Country Club is supposed to be really great as well.
If you want something out of the way in the middle of no where, where there is not a lot to do other than golf and drink, I have a hidden gem. TPC Danzante Bay in Loreto on the Sea of Cortez. It's a bitch to get to and you are isolated from everything, but worth the trip.

|
You normally have to be an adult to get a cart, but some are flexible. Most courses do allow walking, but some can be really tough to get around. I would ask at the time of booking and see what the golf shop has to say. It will vary from club to club.

Our house is a few minutes from El Conquistador, do you know anything about that course?
|
El Conquistador is an interesting facility, have two 18 hole courses and a seasonal 9 hole (you're in season). Conquistador is the top course and is fun. Canada is more resort golf, so easier and more aesthetically pleasing. Pusch Ridge is a little nine hole you can take the kids out on and have some fun. My only qualm with El Conquistador is the conditions are hit and miss. If you play it when its in good shape, you'll have a blast. If conditions are spotty, it can be a bit of a nightmare.

Also, I see there is a private course right nearby that is part of Club Corp we can play Oro Valley Country Club. Do you know anything about that course?
|
I haven't had opportunity to play Oro Valley Country Club, but one of my favorites, that has since gone out of business and has been turned into a nature preserve, was in the proximity. Since it is a Club Corp facility it should be quite nice and well maintained. I would definitely give it a go.
Since you are a Club Corp member I might recommend that you reach out to your club pro and see if they can work out a reciprocal and try and get you on The Gallery (North or South) in Marana (just a little north and west of where you will be staying). Developed in the middle of the Saguaro National Forest it is the epitome of desert golf and one of the most stunningly beautify golf courses on this planet. Conditions are always top notch and it is a treat to play. It is extremely private and takes an act of God to get on, but worth the effort.

Sim is fun and shot trajectories are pretty good - but yardage is way off and challenging to get used to
By way off I mean my 165 yd 8 iron was consistently going near 200 - Also I don't like how the sim can't pick up spin
I would never join league play there but a good time for casual beers and golf

Really? I feel like it’s really +/- 10 yards. The only issue is when you have to to hit it short and it’s hard to have the sensors pick them up.

I found the "putting" part very inconsistent and frustrating.

got fitted at Ted and Dave's today. First time I got fitted for Irons.
Process was great, and it was nice to hit on the range as well to see the ball flight.
Basically hit a bunch of balls with my current club, then hit a bunch more balls with a variety of clubs. Then hit a bunch more balls again with a narrowed selection.
Not sure if the off-season has really slowed me down, or just age - but I lost a bunch of club speed and distance since the season ended last year.
Ended up ordering Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metals. It came down to the Mizuno's or the equivalent Srixon's.
Found out my current TaylorMade M2s were not stock on the lie and it was affecting my swing poorly. I had purchased them refurb off the rack - so lesson learned here - get fitted before buying.
Super happy with the process, I did get fitted for a Putter last season, and it was the same process. I like the fact that I got to try the whole spectrum of brands / models.

Had a tee time at Peace Portal in South Surrey today.
Had to cancel because the convoy is going right by there and likely to disrupt things. Not worth taking the chance and getting stuck in that.

I got these last year and LOVE them - best sticks I have ever had.
And yes, Parsons have a ####-ton of shafts in stock, which helps immensely for ordering.

So I didn’t get the 60 degree wedge with the set as I replaced it with the 3 iron. Trying to figure out if that was a mistake. The Sugar Daddy wedges are so incredible feeling I’m rethinking this decision. 60 has always been my weakest wedge, but they are so easy to hit. You have these and the 60? Opinion?

I play 46/50/54/58.
60 is evil. I've killed two people with a 60 degree wedge.

I have a 60 for exactly one reason: sub 30 yard flop.
But If I could hit all my other clubs better if drop it for sure. I just can’t hit something that would replace it consistent enough to have in my bag.

I love my 60 for that exact reason. If I'm 20-30 away from the green with a trap in the way I feel like I can get it over and stop with a decent putt remaining. While it's far from perfect, that confidence and having that in the bag is too valuable to drop it now.

I can manipulate the face of the 56 pretty well for most conditions and distances. The problem are those bunkers with the steep faces where you do need to get the ball up immediately. The big swing with that open face makes mi####s more probable. But do you carry a club for a shot you may not hit in a round, or do you just try and manipulate the other clubs in the bag? Pull the 5 wood and put the 60 back in? Pull the 3 iron and lay off the 5 wood? I can make them all work to some degree, but trying to justify it is the part I'm struggling with. If Ann Landers only answered golf questions!
