Default LeBrun: Flames to add secondary scoring. Friedman: A lot of people think Toffoli

https://www.tsn.ca/video/~2377941

per LeBrun, if Treliving is going to make a trade it will most likely be to address secondary scoring
Treliving thinks some of the secondary scoring could come from with in (e.g. Coleman)

LeBrun thinks Montreal and Ottawa could be natural trade partners for the Flames
Also thinks that since the top playoff contenders are focused on d-men it could give a bit of an edge for the Flames shopping the forward market

he also said that he was going to expand on this in his Wednesday article for the Athletic

the center position is where the most improvement is needed. A rhs centre like Pageau would be nic
edit: but not Pageau specifically, his salary is blegh

Man, when I watched Dillon Dube against Winnipeg and to some degree Dallas in 2020 I was so pumped. He was the guy I could see slotting into the middle 6 and being a solid secondary scorer. Not to late, but like so many prospects it feels like he’s going the wrong direction. Still love the guy. But damn.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Hoping for Toffoli, bracing for Chariot.

Not that it's an excuse but hasn't Dube had Covid multiple times. Could be hampering him a bit because of that.

Does Mangiapane have a significantly less talented brother?

I maintain that Dube has just gotten too comfortable and has lost the competitive edge as a result. Someone pushing for his spot could light a fire under him.

If the Flames are looking for secondary scoring why would they go after Chariot?

I’m hopeful that we finally solve the secondary scoring dilemma. Tre has usually traded for term, but this year could possibly be different with so many critical RFAs/UFAs needing new contracts.

Whenever I see Dube with the puck, I get a little sad. I know he’s going to try and pivot along the boards with it and then lose it to an opposing player.
It also feels like all his decisions are about 2 seconds too slow. I had such high hopes for him. Im hoping he’ll turn it around. Maybe he’s thinking too much or something.

If the Flames decide to trade for an expensive center I can see this happening.

When LeBrun mentioned Montreal and Ottawa, I think of Toffoli and C. Brown.

I think the Flames do one of the following:
- Trade for an expensive center (Miller, Hertl, Giroux, Pavelski) + call up Stockton winger (Pelletier, Phillips)
- Trade for two, less-pricier middle 6 players (Toffoli, Brown, Jarnkrok, etc.)

Sutter has talked quite a bit about how he needs more out of his centers behind Lindholm, so I'm guessing he prefers the first option. Trade lists and NMCs are going to be a big road block though.

I've said it before, Toffoli and Brown added to this lineup would be lights out. Pitlick and Dube could go the other way for cap purposes with picks/prospects.

Johnny - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangi - Backlund - Toffoli
Coleman - Monahan - Brown

Absolutely love that top 9.

I think one of those will be the Flames targets.

Looking at Ottawa and Montreal I would be thinking:

Lekhonen (RFA): fresh off the finals last year, cheap contract- likely bigger ask due to RFA status probably looking for Dube swap or heftier picks/prospects

Paul (UFA): big body, cheap contract, having a career year, seems like a guy who could score some big goals in the playoffs

Sanford (UFA): big body, cheap contract, played a big role in the 2019 cup final with STL

I would go for Sanford/Paul. Ottawa plays a similar system to us and I'm sure either would integrate well into Darryls system. Plus theyre both bigger bodies and that would help beef up a third line with Monahan and Dube on it.

I really like both Paul and Sanford, but I would think the Flames want to add scoring to their RW position. Both are LHS LW.

I think removing Ritchie with a top 6 RHS scoring winger would do wonders for this group.

Either way, would be disappointed with those guys for depth.
