Taking a while to get to 5000

Is there another team outside Calgary that can pay him what Marner is making? My guess is no but thats without any deep research.
He'll probably get between $9M-$10M here (IMO)

Since you didn’t mention anyone specifically, I can only assume because they weren’t as good as Marner.
Marner and Panarin are two of Johnny’s closest comparables - he’s not taking less than both of them as a UFA. That’s not how star player contracts in sports work.

There are at least five, including the Flyers, who can offer him $11M without making any additional roster moves to clear cap.

Pretty sure the Flyers will need to make some moves.

Kucherov, Rantanen, Kaprizov, Landeskog, etc
I didn't want to get into a discussion about each and every player because their situations are all different but I would argue these guys are as good or better

Maybe you should check again.
Start with Seattle, Philly, Detroit, Anaheim, and the Devils.
They either have the space already, or they gain it by doing things like not re-signing Giroux and Ristolainen

You have to consider the 7 year contract as a UFA vs. the 8 years that the Flames can offer though. Suppose Johnny can get $11M AAV over 7 years as a UFA, plus say $3M as a 36 year old (which is hardly a given - many other players are retired by then or signing near league minimum to chase a cup) - that's $80M over 8 years, so if the Flames offer $10M AAV for 8 years that should be pretty competitive. And who's to say that he'll definitely get 7 year offers from any team willing to sign him at $11M? IMO he'd be making a mistake signing, say, an $11.5M x 6 year deal ($69M total, nice) if he has a $9.5-10M x 8 year deal ($76-80M total) offer from the Flames.

This is a massive assumption. You seem to think it is a given that money and ego are going to trump anything else.

With Giroux and Ristolainen off the books, the Flyers won’t have any trouble signing Gaudreau.
A desperate Flyers franchise with deep pockets that also happens to be Gaudreau’s hometown is going to make him a monster offer. Throw Jersey into the mix as another team close to home with all kinds of cap space that will be able to make a huge offer.
I don’t think there’s any doubt* Gaudreau will land a huge contract. It’s just a matter of where.
* The only thing I could see devaluing him below $10 mil a season is if he gets shut down again in the playoffs.

I could see Nashville being a dark horse landing spot for Gaudreau if he goes UFA.

With those 2 off the books the Flyers have $13M to sign 13 players (as per Capfriendly) as they only have 10 signed for next season. A little tougher than you think. And they only have 2 defencemen currently signed for next season.

I expect they’ll pawn off JVR somewhere too.
The owner wants to make a splash. The GM is desperate. They’ll be aggressive.

I'll encourage people to listen to the most recent Flames Nation podcast. Pike and Stevenson do a great job of recounting Gaudreau's career going all the way back to Debuque. What's curious is that Gaudreau has had opportunities to leave the Flames, and yet, here he is.

So, lets say the Flyers are able to move JVR with no cap coming back. That gives them $20M. How much of that is going to Gaudreau? At least $9M, and that is if he want to take less (perhaps far less) to go home. That still leave $11M for 12 players. I think Kadri is a more likely Flyer target. Hell, I would even say Tkachuk to Philadelphia for Koenecny, Frost and a pick is more likely.
Said it before, but I think it is going to be very hard for another team to beat the Flames best offer.

Philly will be hard pressed to come up with the $11M and still have a decent team, they are close to cap hell next year....also, if the idea is for JG to get closer to home or play on a better team the only option on that list is NJ.
even then $10M x 8 gives him more money than $11M x 7, I just don't see it.

I always thought Gaudreau would sign here.
I always thought he’d sign a long term extension after his ELC.
I do think it’s very possible he extends here again.
I don’t think he’s coming back for anything that starts with a 9. If it’s 10, it’s gotta be a high 10.
Brady Tkachuk makes $8.5M. Marner makes $10.6. At the very least, he’s going to be closer to Marner than he is Tkachuk, and as a UFA, he has all the power.
They’re going to have to show him the money.

Johnny also got to burn a year off his ELC by signing with Calgary. He got to the money 1 year sooner.
