Agreed. They are a time waster, add nothing to the show, most fans just go through the motions (more fans at Flames games get excited over yelling C and Red than want to sing an anthem). And why are we singing a US anthem in Canada anyway. To honour the owners of the visitors?

I go back and forth on the anthems. On one hand I find them tedious and unnecessary, especially during the dog days of the regular season.

On the other hand I absolutely love the atmosphere it creates in playoff games.

I could take them or leave them.

Maybe in the next few years, a Global Series could include a game in Mexico City? I'd like to know more about their arena (capacity 20,000+). I assume it doesn't have an ice plant but maybe if it has enough floor space, the NHL could bring an ice plant indoors much like they would normally do for outdoor games (Disney on Ice does this a lot for arenas).

EDIT: I was just reading that the older Palacio de Los Deportes had been used for hockey before (capacity ~20,000) and Disney on Ice as recently as February 2020. An older facility, being built in 1968 but probably fine for a one-off. I've seen an NHL game at the arena in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was built in 1971 and pretty utilitarian (looks like the Saddledome from the outside!) so there's some precedent.
