Default New York

Okay all you super helpful posters! I know many of you folks are well travelled and I need some opinions/suggestions, anything. I am going to New York from this Sunday till Thursday. It's a bit last minute and I don't have a lot of time to research stuff, which is why I'm posting here.

The thing is, there are a million things to see/visit but I'm only there for 4 days. Tell me please: what is definitely worth going to? Not worth going to? Places to avoid? Tips on anything else?

Thanks in advance! Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Been a while but the NBC studio tour at rockefeller was very cool.
Also, the Radio City Tour was very cool as well.

As cheesy as they are, if youve never been to NY, I would suggest doing all the big tourist stuff first. The second time you will come here you can delve much deeper into the city, and get a much more authentic sense of the city.

One thing I recommend though is to just walk around. Don't take the tourist buses or guides...just walk around and you will have a much better experience. There are things in this city you will never find out about unless you stumble onto them aimlessly.

Super cool plac to visit. It can be insanely pricey though.

-check out a game at MSG if you can. An original 6 team, and the building is full of nostalgia and history. Neat to see.
- use the subway to get around. It's really easy to navigate, cheap, and WAY easier than standing in a cab line.
- take a boat tour to see Ellis island and the statue of liberty. Pretty cool stuff
-check out a braodway show if you can
-comedy clubs are fun as well, they're cheap and hilarious

Do the Opie and Anthony "walk-over" to XM radio. Those are always hilarious. It's on 57th near Central Park

Go to Chapters and buy a book on NYC for the plane ride. Last summer, I bought three books because I was all set to go to NYC for the 9/11 anniversary, and then I didn't end up going. The books were helpful though, LOL.

Lonely Planet Books have served me well. The city guide for SF was very useful. This is the guide for NY:

http://shop.lonelyplanet.com/Primary...=1174507941340

Written by three opinionated New Yorkers (is there any other kind?), they share their knowledge on the best restaurants, shopping, art galleries, theatres, you name it. From Central Park to Park Slope, Soho to Dumbo, these locals know where to be in NYC.

  • A full-colour pull-out map highlighting walking tours and attractions. And it's waterproof too, so if you spill your martini, it just wipes straight off.
  • Up-to-the-minute, blink-and-you'll-miss-it, insider tips from NYC residents.
  • Themed walking tours so you can fully explore Soho shopping or East Village rock `n roll.
  • Detailed arts and entertainment coverage, from live music to rooftop happy hours.
I might go to NYC this fall for the first time to visit some friends in Queens.

Good to know, my hotel is right by there. Is the tour expensive? How long does it take?

Too exclusive, that's a one-man show.

Thanks for checking, I was really hoping I'd be able to go to a game. It would've been awesome to see a Ranger game live. But more importantly, I'll need to find a place showing the Flames road games.

It was a long time ago but I think both were relatively cheap and about 1.5 hours or so. You should be able to google both.

I should also add, that Expedia.ca as well as probably other places, offer a coupon if you will, that you pay a flat fee for, and then you can enter many of the touristy locations without paying anymore. It's a pretty good deal if you are going to spend some time looking around the city.

I did this last September! I wore my Flames jersey and managed to get invited up to the studio to watch the broadcast live. I'd really recommend this for hardcore O&A fans though.

Catching a Broadway show, going to a comedy club, and just wandering around the city taking in the atmosphere are highly recommended.

Score some seats for Spamalot . . . . walk around Times Square after the show.

A chocolate milkshake at Brooklyn Diner in midtown Manhattan.

Take your puke bag with you to see Madam Tussuads French Revolution display off Times Square.

New York concert listings

http://www.coasttocoasttickets.com/b...rt_tickets.htm

Museums, running in the park, Harlem, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building . . . . . should be very few crowds for the normal tourist things.
