I also think C vs W is a big question for the team in terms of what they focus on.
I think if they trade for a center then the best bet is to break up the top line:
Gaudreau - Hertl - Coleman
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Dube - Monahan - Pelletier
Lucic - Backlund - Lewis
Or if they add a winger then you need to be confident with Monahan and Backlund as your 2 and 3 C going into the playoffs.
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Monahan - Toffoli
Dube - Backlund - Pelletier
Lucic - Ruzicka - Lewis

Where is Coleman in your second group? Don’t see a fit for Pelletier and I only see him playing in the playoffs if there are injuries.

No, the salary is averaged out for the cap number regardless of which years the salary is actually paid.

Can we somehow get Laine here?
He'd be the cure to all that ails us currently.

Rental, has a Conn Smythe, still producing fairly well on an absolutely horrid team. He's probably just eating hot dogs and golfing 99% of his time right now, so if he agreed to come here for a playoff run (has an NMC) then he'd probably be willing to put up and perform for that short period of time at least. I would be down. But, he's lower on the list than the others for a reason lol. I also think that he's one that wouldn't want to come to Canada.

Lets go get Laine AND Kessel for the spectacle of what it would look like with Sutter coaching both of them.

Well earned hearty chuckle from me!
I think Laine could do well with Sutter under the right circumstances.

I might be wrong but some players strike me as more plug and play than others.
A player like Laine and Kessel might take some time to integrate into a Sutter system. Are they ready to play as fast as he wants? More of a 200 foot player is probably effective right away. They might not have the offensive upside you want, but would upgrade the winger position immediately.

This is such a difficult scenario because I feel like any rental added is likely going to walk in the summer. Not that different from the last time this team looked like they could do something they have a summer full of tough contracts to negotiate.
Adding Eberle, Toffoli, Milller etc would make sense in regards to paying a 1st or good assets because these guys would be back for at least one more run. Even without any moves it is going to be tough to sign Johnny and the 3 RFA’s this summer.
This team could be in rental territory only which is really tough to see high picks and good prospects moved.

I'd prefer to get a guy who's played under Sutter before, and/or isn't some entitled ######...and a reasonable contract.
Toffoli pls.

Interestingly enough I could see Pearson and Toffoli both being targets.

I think it's going to be Rakell if we add anyone. As an outside shot I think they might try to target Reilly Smith if Vegas has to clear cap-space for Eichel mid-season.
Also as an outside the box scenario I could see them being after Josh Anderson (again), but I can't say that I'm a fan of his contract.

Only Toffoli for me.
He's a buddy of Mony, played under Sutter, RHS RW.
Check, check, check.

Pass on Laine unless he's dirt cheap... Which he won't be. I could see him not wanting to work and pouting then doing sweet FA for us. Just don't see him as a fit despite his decent scoring acumen.

Pretty sure his qualifying offer this summer is high as well. The cost to get him would have to be like acquiring a rental for it to be a decent move. That would make it so the flames could choose not to qualify him in the offseason if he wasn’t a fit or if he wouldn’t fit in the cap structure of the team. Don’t want the team to feel forced to sign him because they payed a bunch of assets to acquire him at the TDL.
Overall, I just don’t see him working out. He is the current era’s version of Alexander Semin I think.

Just terrible waste of assets IMO.
And a team that might be forced into a rebuild very shortly should not be unloading valuable future pieces for a player that might only be with them for a couple months.
