Its because the parade is back on....he will be here for a week and then disappear again when the Oilers go back to doing Oiler stuff.

Near the deadline I think this type of thing is pretty possible.
Koskinen and picks/prospects for a goalie on a team that is out of the playoffs.
MAF or Varlamov seem like realistic possibilities.

Could happen. If the Oilers are in a playoff position at that point, it will probably be a low position making their 1st rounder more valuable than most other playoff teams. Plus getting Koskinen guarantees a tank.

I could be wrong, but I wonder if being the team that jumped on and extended Kane's NHL career for not league minimum might lose them favour to other potential bidders for a goalie.
You'd imagine that selling your soul comes with a repayment of karma in some shape or form down the line, even if Kane somehow manages not to be a locker room time bomb.

The elephant in the room though is that a goalie won’t fix the Oilers goals against. Their D are absolute ####.

Both the defense and team defense are atrocious.
The hilarity is oiler fans buying into the "just need a goalie" one more piece narrative that the sportsnet propaganda crew are spoon feeding them.
Meanwhile we just keep pumping out the "this guy scored" memes.

Especially for a pending unrestricted free agent with an NMC. If they are playing for a contract, going to Edmonton is not the place to make you look good.

This. You have to find a goalie willing to go to Edmonton, fits into the cap, is better than Koskinen and not looking for a contract at the end of the season, or anytime soon, as their numbers are going to be terrible due to a lack of defense.
That further limits the options of who is available to them.
Marc Andre Fleury has made US $91M in his career. Does anyone really think he wants to wind up his career being shell-shocked in Edmonton? Get serious.

I mean, goaltending is the biggest need, (Expected goals against is 12th and actual is 28th) but there aren't any starting goaltenders currently available for pennies on the dollar.
I believe the Oilers still have enough cap space to add that goalie if Koskinen is sent the other way, assuming one becomes available.
|
Well Kane had been a minus player pretty much his entire career so I'm not sure his 5 on 5 play is his biggest strength

Also, one of the reasons that the Oilers struggle 5 on 5 is that they can't get it out of their own zone (because the defense sucks), and Kane isn't helping with that.
It's hilarious because most Oiler fans recognize and admit that the team is flawed and constructed poorly. But then the Oil go and add another offensive piece, ignoring all their problems, and fans jump on board, trying to justify it in their heads.
If cognitive dissonance were a colour, it would be orange and blue.

Agreed. Assuming by 'picks and prospects' you mean including Oilers 1st pick.
Koskinen plus 1st, plus could get a deal done, maybe.

MAF and Varlamov both have MNTCs. But sure, let them do those deals? I don’t think the upgrade is significant anyway.

Granted. He's a potential sex offender and a total piece of ####. But hey. Kane! Wait. Yeah. Evander. Allegedly.
Whats with the NHL Kanes?>

It was Ferraro who freaked out. Such a ridiculous overreaction.

Who knows if Koskinen is even bad...the quality of shots the Oilers allow is ridiculously high...every goal that leaves town seems to do at least alright.
Classic Oilers would be paying a first for some old goalie who comes in and sucks while Koskinen's career takes off elsewhere

The funny thing is behind the Oilers defence he would probably end up with near identical numbers to the Koskinen.
Basically the Oilers structure turns any goalie into a Koskinen, so they're just playing with themselves at this point.
Fun to watch though!
