It'll be interesting to see the lines tonight. Presumably Yamamoto drops out of the top 6, but he doesn't seem like he'll be at all effective slotting lower.
They might be smarter to spread things across 3 lines, but obviously that's just not the Oiler's Way.

It addresses a need. 5 on 5 goal scoring is currently 16th for the Oilers.
I mean, goaltending is the biggest need, (Expected goals against is 12th and actual is 28th) but there aren't any starting goaltenders currently available for pennies on the dollar.
I believe the Oilers still have enough cap space to add that goalie if Koskinen is sent the other way, assuming one becomes available.

I wonder if they try to take a stab at Fleury, or maybe bale Seattle from the Grubauer contract.

I don't even think his attitude will have that big of an effect on the locker room, and I don't think the locker room even has that big of an effect on what happens on the ice.
I just think it's ethically embarrassing that Kane is anywhere near the game of hockey and the Oilers management, fans, the City of Edmonton, and the NHL should be ashamed.

I'm still curious where you were the past 2 months once the Oil came back to reality?

Well of course they can add a goalie if they shed $4.5M of Koskinen. But who is sending them a good goalie for Koskinen?

It really is an all timer.
Hollland by his comment is almost gleeful to clearly pass the ticking time bomb that is Kane down to Tippett, after himself trying to reconcile the move he was forced to make by Lowe the last days, and Tippett realizes it’s now solely up to him not to have this blow up an already untenable dressing room and roster situation.
These of awkward pressers are all a direct result of the Lowe “tier 1 fans one”, because he does not participate anymore but instead throws his management to the wolves like this.

My guess, or at least what I’m preparing myself for is that Kane will get a hat-trick tonight against Montreal and fans and media will go crazy. Kane will go on to score 7 goals in his first 4-5 games and people will be going nuts and some on CP will be screaming for Trelivings head. Then things will slow down and by mid March Kane will be sucking wind, possibly seeing time on the bench and things will go downhill from there. Sort of a J. Neal situation

anyone else remember the Dallas Stars game Edmonton tied and lost in OT? The missed goal that Lubo freaked out over by the Stars on an EN? Had the Oilers lost in regulation they would have drafted Patrick Kane. Well, finally, they got a Kane.
Granted. He's a potential sex offender and a total piece of ####. But hey. Kane! Wait. Yeah. Evander. Allegedly.
Whats with the NHL Kanes?>

Hahaha. Goaltending is the biggest need but the Oilers organization can never be big enough losers so we signed Evander Kane instead.
If we score 7 goals a game and Evander doesn't do what he ALWAYS does to dressing rooms we should be totally fine.

Good luck finding a taker for Koskinen. Who exactly will willingly upgrade your goaltender for you while taking on a worse one?
Having just enough room doesn't make it a realistic possibility.
The more you wander from your cave of shame, and after a Kane signing no less (the potential risks of which you can't even acknowledge - nice assessment there), the more you're inviting even more ridicule in your future.
Are you guys ever capable of taking a wait and see approach on anything before counting your acquisitions/victories? Like hasn't history shown you repeatedly that this always comes back to blow up in your face? Not sure I'll ever understand Oiler fan thinking, or lack thereof.

You missed the part where they give him a 12x8 contract after 4 successful games.

If I were GM of one of teams, I would trade my 2nd or 3rd Goalie to Oilers for there 1st 2022. It may become very high selection on the draft.

Here's the thing. The Oilers don't have the cap space to take on a proven starter. They will have to go bargain bin hunting for a backup with a low cap hit that might get hot. They don't have many options. They can say they could trade Koskinen, but then what? You're in the exact same position with Smith hurt, but now with a low-cost backup as the starter.

Man, watched the hour+ interview TSN did on him. So boring. They flew down to let him ramble and be fake-eloquent. It seemed like a guy who practiced for an interview, gets the job, and when he starts the job you realize he's phony. Nothing notable but him trying to say all the right things and again, sound well thought out. Meh, an hour I'll never get back.
