I consider Brandon Gormley a former Flame because he was drafted with the Flames pick that was used to get Jokinen

I dont know about the rest of you, but I'm way more excited to see what this rag tag group of misfits and ne'erdowells can do than I would be about sending NHLers.

This is going to be like watching the plot of The Mighty Ducks unfold in real-time. Get Emilio in there as the Coach wearing his Gordon Bombay jacket!

Yeah age is certainly the biggest factor.

The Canadian university teams like the Dinos and Golden Bears are full of mid 20 year olds, often with their best players being 25. Like Clayton Kirichenko was a near point-per-game player in the WHL as a defenseman during his overage years and went undrafted. Four years later and he's one of the best players for the Golden Bears at 25. Noah Philp scored 75 points in 56 games his last season in the WHL as an overager (and also played for the Stockton Heat prior to his brother Luke joining the team).

While the best prospects for the NHL teams are usually 18 or 19 if they play against the U teams at all then you get the likes of the Agostinos of the world suiting up to play against the Dinos at 20.

In Monahan's draft year he was the first OHL player picked at 6th overall. He scored an impressive 78 points in 58 games. Sarault had 108 points in 68 games. Sarault was as good or better than any other player on the ice that year, but I'm sure a lot of people would ask "who?" because it's not impressive to be the best as a 20 year old in a league full of 18 year olds.

World juniors team would get destroyed by any competent men's professional team.

Well, put me on record saying I won't be watching a single game. Kazakhstan can win it for all I care as it's more or less a junior tournament I don't care about. Can't even say it's an Olympic games when you have that level of shyte playing.

Eh...whatever. I think it'll be fun.

Frankly, I think the days of really valuing an Olympic Gold in hockey are rapidly dwindling.

Especially when the games are being hosted in Russia and China and who knows where next because most nations dont want anything to do with the Olympics anymore because they're an expensive and corrupt boondoggle.

It's 2018 Part 2 for me. And this time without Bourque. I was uninterested then, I'll be less interested now. Great if Canada ends up winning it for the athletes on the team, it's Olympic Gold afterall, but it's not something I will be following outside of the gold game if they make it.

I think what this does is make the next true best-on-best of the world games mean more. Whenever that will be.

That is an opportunity the NHL should seize with both hands and an Iron Grip and never relinquish it back to the Olympics.

Careful now. That's how we end up with the best countries in the world - plus a team full of random 23 year olds and another made of an assortment of random Europeans instead.

I think icing a team that doesn't automatically dwarf the rest of its group makes it more interesting.
Also makes for some great stories for some of these guys that were given up on by NHL organizations and had to carve out a lifestyle overseas away from their home country.

I personally think that's easier to cheer for. I'll be more invested in this team Canada than Team McEntitled.
