The reason JP would exercise his NTC is that he is 37, has played in plenty of POs, and has only moved teams twice. It’s not that attractive a proposition as you might think, especially if the Flames are a PO team but not really a contender for a cup.
Big difference being the Pacific playoff spots aren't available to Dallas

If we are going the rental route something around Domi + Jenner could be interesting.

The need is of course 2C

Popularly available guys:
Hertl
Pavelski
JT Miller

Other targets:
Throw the Eichel package at WPG or DET for Scheifele or Larkin
Bribe a witch doctor to fix Monahan
Convert Kylington to a center (actually serious)

Was this posted? Seravalli suggests the Flames are interested in Miller

Dan Rosen of nhl.com says the Flames are looking for a top-6 forward and a puck-moving defenseman (no surprise). For D, he speculates Klingberg or Gio, and for forwards he mentions Eberle, Toffoli, Bailey, Tatar, and Nyquist.

So a luxury they don’t need, or a half measure. Yeah sounds like the Flames.

I am making a prediction: Jordan Binnington will be an Oiler soon.

I wonder if Rakell could be the right buy low rental. Hasn’t had a huge year in a while but I don’t know why. It’d be good throw Lindholm and basically Lindholm out as your #1/#2 Cs

Either that or Giroux could be good

Good.

We have less trouble solving him than Mikko Koskinen, apparently.

I think of Binnington as a glorified AHL goalie, who had 1 great playoff run, but is otherwise propped up by a solid defensive team. If the Oilers get him, he'll make Koskinen look like Hasek.

Yeah, overrated for sure. Not to mention that he acts like manbaby a lot. He would fit right in with the Oilers.

Yeah, I love the way he acts all tough and tries to gaud/intimidate opposing players-like anyone would be afraid of a 6'2" beanpole. The only thing that's stopping him from getting his clock cleaned is the unwritten rule that you try not to mess with the other team's goalie in that way.

It's a huge salary, but if the Flyers are going to continue to be terrible Giroux as a UFA would be a great addition. At 8.2 though........might be a tough fit.

50 percent retained Giroux for a 1st is a decent price though. Not sure I want the Flames to be dealing 1sts but if you're really in on this group, can't get better than a 4.1m giroux.

team has a forward on pace for over 100 points and another on pace for over 90. They are one of the best defensive teams in the league are right around top 10 in scoring. Goal differential is near the top of the league.

if not now when would you ever trades futures to add? You could draft high for a decade and be lucky to get 2 100 point forwards.

####ing go for it
