Oh no thanks, Flames in my view are not a contender....

They would be better off keeping their 1st and prospects.

Only way to take the next step is to develop within,

We have the best 5v5 1st line in the entire NHL. Do you have any justification for adding a 1st line forward?

At the same time this team has no true #1 defenceman....i was fine with the 1st time the flames gave up draft capital for a top young dman. So was pretty much every fan. Whats Dougie Hamiltons trade value now? Certainly more than a 1st and 2 2nds given up, i see the same value with Chychrun. Get him Brad.

I would think he is way more likely to send a a 4th, 5th type of draft pick for depth players. When the trade deadline occurs.

Over the last few years, this is the trend.

Wny are people so obsessed with past it/high in age players that are available at the trade deadline? If you look at the stats of players traded at the deadline, they very rarely make any difference points wise after the trade.
Toffoli or whoever was great in previous season but thats the point, previous seasons. You're not getting that player, you're getting this years player.

Hot Dog Phil, my man.

Think of the Pocket Dawgs ads!

That deal absolutely makes the Flames a contender, the window is now. You absolutely do that deal.

Concentration is on the wrong players being sent out. Monahan has had a Sutter upgrade. Pelletier looks like an abrasive goalscorer, which is rare.

I like Pelletier but I am not sure he will ever be the goal scorer Toffoli is. Monahan is a broken 4th line C now who is overpaid, Dvorak is a big upgrade imo. I am not sold Dube will ever take that next step but he is the guy I would try and keep out of this deal if anyone.

Dube & Valimaki should be trade chips IMO. That and our 1st and two 2nds

This team may be closer than some think.

I can't believe I still have to keep saying this, but Backlund needs to go. Monahan should be on that second line by now, and he and Mangiapane should have a real RW with them.

Backlund and a pick => Toffoli

Gaudreau Lindholm Tkachuk
Mangiapane Monahan Toffoli
Lucic Dube Coleman
Lewis Richardson Ritchie

Miller or Toffloli will suffice.

This team's centre depth is poor at the moment. If shipping out a centre, one needs to be coming to the Flames in return.

Backlund with incentive for Pavelski was my thought.

Why do I think Backlund will retire a Flame? Ugh.

Backlund has had a great career here. At least acknowledge that.

But yes, any good soldier for the club also has a best before date.

Acknowledged. Flames need to make changes and he could still be a good add for another team.

Don’t see it happening however.

When exactly was his best? He’s always been, fine, at best. The flames need someone that can score goals. The guy misses the net more than I do. And I don’t play hockey

Some data points
- He's 14th in franchise history in points
- He's 13th in his draft class in points
- He's done that all while drawing some of the toughest assignments

He's had a GREAT career here. Doesn't mean he isn't declining as it appears he is, but let's not forget that he's been a very good player for a long time for this organization.
