Markstrom down to 13th in goals saved above expected per 60 and falling fast (among goalies with 15+ starts). Given the trend it's hard to imagine him finishing in the top 16 .

Thank goodness his save percentage is carried by early season blowouts where he stood on his head to ensure 5-0 or 6-0 wins.

Flames aren't built to outscore poor goaltending, which is what they've had from Markstrom for most of his flames tenure.

What this game showed me was the system works. But the team needs to add some more skill/scoring on the 2nd and 3rd line. So many good opportunities shot in to koskinens chest and pads.

I find it funny how many people sit here and mock those that get upset at the effort the Flames have shown the last say 12 games or so… posters who care more than some of the players it seems sadly.

Which funny enough matches their historical effort for the last how many seasons??

At what point do we start holding them accountable for all these typical losses and quit driving home the “good effort, we keep it up we will be fine tho” rhetoric.

This was a typical Flames game we all sadly figured was coming.

People on Twitter still want Tippett to be fired.

Basically that he had no choice but to start Koskinen and play Bouchard on PP1 because Barrie was injured.

Seems like nobody is happy with yesterday’s result (lol).

Hold them accountable for drastically out playing the Oilers and not getting the bounces to win?

Get out the torches!

Yeah that's a pretty bad non call. Very fortunate for the Oilers as even the 3rd Flame back had to deal with the aftermath and was a second late getting to Draisaitl.

Better goaltending, and conversion of their chances would've given Flames more breathing room on the scoreboard.

Flames this season have indicated they cannot beat their own divisional opponents. They gotta stop being tied or trailing teams in the 3rd (duh), and have more multi goal leads in them if they're going to win games. So then there's some room for error, but still can get the regulation W.

The Flames are not going to beat the Oilers if their goalie played better.
Markstrom is mediocre in close games. I am sure someone will pull out some stats but that’s my gut feeling watching this year.

Also, dominating is useless unless you have the ability to cash in. Half of the team relies on luck to score.

Mediocre team vs medicine team
Yes, Johnny has been great but if it’s him vs McDrai, the Flames are not going to win. Markstrom has to be better. I am not sure about the lack of goal scoring skills. That’s on Treliving.

And looking at that winning goal again, does Markstrom know how to pokecheck the puck? Why no effort to even try that? With pissy pants that close to him at least make an effort to knock the puck off his stick. Markstrom can be so frustrating to watch. Make a big save once in a damn while!!! For $6 million these are the games you are supposed to be winning!!

I sadly agree. Questionable calls happen, even ones that result in GWGs. It happens -- gotta move on and try to get the next one.

Our starter has to make one of the saves on those 4 goals preferably you'd like him to make 2 at a bare minimum.

I honestly see a game where four seeing eye pucks got past a big goaltender through traffic.

Happens.

I want Markstrom to be the better goalie in a matchup too, but Koskinen had three pucks go through him but not in, Markstrom had four seeing eye pucks go by him.

Just a bounce night.

As for goaltending, I think we'll be alright as long as we don't face a Canadian team in round 1.

And if Markstrom can't get it done, Sergeev and The Wolf are on the way.
Don't forget about Vldar. Markstrom needs more rest or something. He was lights out to start the season!

Flames had more chances 5 on 5 and just couldn't do anything with them. A little puck luck would have been nice, but I saw lots of shots right into Koskinen's belly too.

I thought the Flames handled the puck like a grenade most of the night, like they were afraid to make a mistake with it. That's not good.

On that winning goal, yeah, Tanev got beaten. That happens and hyou’re supposed to have support. Kylington wasn’t the support because he had a guy, but the interference put in him in the way of the third guy back (Lindholm?) who could have cut over. Mind you Lindholm was gliding all the way from the blue line and didn’t give 100% effort there.

I can’t see the complaints about Monahan - he was one of the better forwards out there, he beat Koskinen twice and just got unlucky. Tkachuk was pretty good, Gaudreau was fine (except he made that bad angle shot like 4 times, which to me says he’s playing a bit of his old perimeter game). Mangiapane and Dube were the guys I can’t recall a nice play out of. And the 4th line didn’t look very good.

Yeah, I thought our only shift to shift good players up front were Tkachuk, Lindholm, Gaudreau and Monahan (good for Mony!), but Dube's effort on the PP to keep the puck in and then dive for the puck led directly to Lucic's goal. It was a good play by Dube.

Really disappointed with Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman as I thought that line really didn't do much.

The penalty kill and Markstrom's inability to make a big save was the difference in the game I thought. This Flames group putting up 3 goals should be enough. They're built to be a 3-2 team and rely on their top line and PP to generate pretty much all their offense, so it's pretty deflating to see the PK and goaltending be subpar.
