Totally expected outcome. Flames are great at beating teams out of conference but when it comes to more meaningful games they rarely can out battle teams that want the game as bad as them or more. Markstrom once again in a big game is the 2nd best goaltender on the ice. In a lot of ways he's the perfect goaltender for this team as the bigger the game the worse he is.

I missed most of the game and only saw the GWG by Draisaitl. I though for sure the Flames were going to win this one, oh well, lots of games left. I wonder if we don't have to upgrade at D before adding forward depth.

A quick collection of thoughts and some more 'P' words to describe this one.

Quotes included.

Monahan gets a minus on a goal he had nothing to do with and should have been a penalty

I wasn't even giddy when the Flames were up 2-0. Koskinen played as desperate as he could get to ensure he still had a job in the NHL. An impressive performance to say the least.

McDavid and Draisaitl were pretty much neutralized all game aside from the dumb PP freebies the Oilers get. Gotta make sure the game management refs get their parity fix in.

I am not worried. Come playoff time the Flames are far more prepared.

Neither goal was remotely his fault.

This is why looking at the box score and looking at plus minus is useless.

Everything was the problem. Couldn't hold the lead, couldn't put the game out reach couldn't defend and at least get the game to OT. Couldn't get timely saves.

Why was Backlund on the ice with under 2 minutes left, and why was Looch the 6th man after Markstrom was pulled? Bizarre coaching choices

Lucic was obviously out there to stand in front of the net like on the Flames PP goal he scored

Honest question. Who has confidence that Markstrom can provide the required goaltending for a playoff run?

He has pretty much come as advertised.

To chase down loose pucks and win the board battles obviously.

As advertised? He won a play in round and a first round series against the defending champs the year before he signed here

I think for most part the team other than Markstrom was fine. Mangiapane truffled early on. Tkachuk looked great. Nice hit by Zadorov.

I think you're a little in the dumps tonight, Zammy. Which is understandable because #### that game.

Get a good 8 hours and then circle back for your autopsy when it doesn't feel all doom and gloom.

Plenty of runway yet, and lots of meetings to get even with those twerps. Got to just burn it and refocus. Trust in Sutter to right the ship.

Only the last thing was an issue really.

None of the first three goals were goals that you were like “that’s an impossible save”

In reality you’d like one of those three goals to go in.

Even offensively I think they generated a ton of chances and Koskinen got lucky on a lot. Monahan post; Monahan tip where his trailing leg kicked it out, Mangiapane and Dube one timers. Koskinen was lucky tonight.

This is a game where a fanbase overreacts to a loss when really the Flames were by far the better team tonight.

Backlund is the 2nd line centre, and Lucic is 4th in goals on the team. It's the best he (Sutter) has to work with.

Just have to acknowledge that this team has piss poor depth, and they are doing the best they can.

Flames and Packers fan here. Epic bed wetting by both teams tonight. Super fun.
