Bought a signed Bennett jersey just weeks before the trade. Obviously my fault. Sry all.

Sorry I don't refer to the sports team I support as "we" or "us". But being frustrated with a lack of success and expressing that frustration doesn't make me not a fan of the Flames. I want to see them win something, someday. And they're not gonna do that by mismanaging the highest draft pick in franchise history to the point that he wants out, only for him to break out literally the moment he leaves. Or consistently letting top talents come to Pacific division rivals because management is too afraid to make a big trade. Or wasting basically this core's entire prime on trash coaching.

I posted this list some time ago, of worst trades
1. Gilmour
2. Savard
3. Mullen (they also traded Sarge for a 2nd which wasn't great either)
4. Giguere
5. Regehr to Buffalo
6. Bouwmeester (didn't need to happen as he had a 1 year left)
7. Stralman/Lydman (putting these together as they are very similar in that a quality dman was traded for next to nothing, seemed like they didn't align to Sutter's approach to D but they both went on to be long time quality NHLers)
8. Phaneuf (this was a bad deal because they should have gone for quality not quantity)
9. Hrdina for Kyte
I would add to that:
- Giving up MSL for nothing
- James Neal UFA
- Hamonic deal is probably top 15
- Though in isolation I don't think you can be too hard on not picking good players in the mid 20s, but the cumulative impact of the Chucko, Pelech, Irving, Nemisz, Erixon stretch from 2004 to 2009 (with Backlund sandwiched in there) did the franchise some serious long-term harm and deserves mention.
I'm probably missing some stuff. Right now I would put the entire "Saga of Sam" from the pick, to the development, to the trade somewhere in the top 20.
Special Bonus: The Flames signing Teemu Selanne to an offer sheet matched by the Jets. This wasn't a blunder at all, in fact it was a brilliant move. It falls more under the "what if" category for if Winnipeg hadn't matched the Flames fortunes surely change.

Good points and I agree. My apologies. Hard to watch Sam doing so well but happy he found a good situation in Florida. Hopefully, the Flames will put things together and add some much-needed scoring at the deadline.

Sam Bennett would have been awesome in Calgary if the Flames had a Jonathan Huberdeau for him to play with. Sadly, Bennett was supposed to be the Flames' version of Jonathan Huberadeau, and not just a "complementary" player to the actual Jonathan Huberdeau.

Hrdina? That doesn't even register as anything imo. Decent player for a bottom 6 guy. Hamonic was ten times as bad considering the talent of the team and the pool of assets

Huberdeau might be one of the most under-rated players right now.
4th in league scoring behind Mcdavid, Draisatl and AO - but gets a fraction of the attention.

Exactly. Huberdeau is the straw that stirs the drink in Florida. The guy is amazing, and anyone put with him produces. Duclair, Tippett, Bennett, etc, all punch well above their scoring ability when they are on the ice with Huberdeau. He just makes things happen out of nothing. A fire hydrant could score 40 points playing with Huberdeau.

I’m pissed that we don’t have Bennett.
I’m more pissed that the Florida Panthers are managed as well as they are, but the Calgary Flames are managed the way they are.
The depth the Panthers have is insane. What a damn team.

When you get high picks and use them on Barkov, Huberdeau and Ekblad that helps a ton. Then get guys like Verhague, Bennett and Duclair fairly cheap that helps too.
If you're going to be really bad make sure your draft picks count. Florida has.

What a statement that is. Consider that I would routinely read about how badly the franchise has been run and that they should move the team...over, and over, and over, and over.
What this says is that winning cures all, and that a few shrewd moves is all it takes to move a middling franchise to an elite one.
Of course, you need the right person making those moves. Dale Tallon and others...sucked. Bill Zito was a great choice.

Seems to be heating up now after fighting injuries and suspensions. Suspect he gets back to a PPG pace for the rest of the year.

Bennett sucks, the Panthers won 9-2 and he only got 1 goal, 1 assist, just over 15.5 mins of icetime, 5 shots, 0 PIMS, 5/9 on face-offs, but he was only a +1!
Wait is +/- the really important stat or the really useless stat???

They haven't won a playoff round since 1996...its not like they had a couple bad years and made them count. They were bad for 25 years. Need to win a round or two this season.
