weird, I thought they'd let him tank for another year before getting in a new guy.

That said, if they flame out next year, it's likely the end of the line for Reich and Ballard.

Let's be real, Culley was hired to be fired ASAP, they settled on him because he might have been the only person to take over that dumpster fire. But their situation isn't any better now than it was last year, and I agree with most people they did better than expected with one of the worst rosters in the league. Would love to know what their plan here is other than praying to Jesus.

thought Culley overachieved with 4 wins too. Who are they going to hire? They are the most unattractive HC vacancy by far. Crazy stuff, but I guess that's why some bad teams just always stay bad. Starts with McNair, obviously.

IMO this makes sense is if they think bringing in Flores convinces Watson to stay. Not brilliant but it’s an angle at least

Firing a guy after one season in which he had no QB is a clown move by a junk organization.

^^ Flores actually makes a lot of sense with them trying to create Patriots south. Whether he can help them keep Deshaun, who knows, but it obviously wouldn't hurt.

Everyone knew it was most likely a 1 and done BUT
Unless they have someone already lined up Culley did an amazing job with basically a farm team of players
They played hard, professionally, and I dont think anyone can argue he got more then 100% out of that talent pool.
Its really weird they wouldn't retain him in some manner if the plan was always for him to be a stop gap
(Now maybe they offered him another role and he decided he would rather take the 2nd year of his contract paid out and go work for a team with an actual chance at his age)

I have read about Mayo (smart player and up and coming coach) and he is an intriguing candidate as I was hoping the Raiders interview him. If other teams are sniffing around I have no idea why he would choose the Texans.

Nick Caserio is not getting nearly enough credit for the job he has done with the Texans over the last year and it's clear not many are following the Texans closely enough to notice his work (understandable).
I posted this elsewhere a few days ago but will copy/paste for those interested who might not follow the Texans situation very closely. For the record, I graded his first year with the team as an A performance, have copied/pasted in NSFW due to length.
The Culley era was never going to be more than a year or two experience and he was hired to be fired. Everyone knew it. His job was to throw himself on the grenade that was the Texans HC job in that moment and lose games with a smile on his face/build a sense of culture within the lockerroom. He did a great job off the field and was in way over his head on the field as expected. He should be proud of himself for how he handled the entire situation but anyone saying that this firing reflects poorly on the Texans doesn't know what they are talking about.
Look for them to trade Laremy Tunsil next for a late first/early second and the same "LOL TEXANS DONT HAVE A CLUE" comments to follow. Only thing that is going to change this narrative is time but people should realize that this team with Caserio in charge is not anywhere close to where it was a year ago.

It’s just a question of which Patriot coach the Texans will hire.

Trojan 97 you obviously follow the Texans closely and I liked your writeup. Caserio is definitely competent. I believe though that Pastor Jack still has a lot of influence particularly with Cal, who to be polite is not executive material. And that’s being very polite.

I appreciate the kind words. Glad you liked it.
Easterby no doubt still has his hooks deep into Cal. Those two should be put into a cannon and fired into the sun together.
With that said, I haven't seen anything from Caserio (as of yet) to indicate that he is influenced in anyway by that bald idiot and based on how he handled those questions at his intro press conference I don't think it's going to be a problem moving forward. I find it very telling that ever since Caserio has taken over the Easterby drama has ceased completely. Can't say I blame you for being hesitant to believe it tho, totally understandable.

Now they just need to move on from Watson. Which is going to take Watson settling these civil claims with Buzbee. And supposedly end of January is when grand jury findings will be released and any criminal charges will be laid.
I think it was the Senator several posts ago who said the Texans are right where they were a year ago which is wildly wrong.
They finally have their own picks, plus some others, salary cap flexibility and whatever they get from Watson. Should be able to attract a much stronger coach now and actually start moving forward.
