San Jose made the finals in his first full year with them. They seemed to survive it just fine. Unless you are going to have him around forever - who cares. He'll be on his best behaviour because he wants to land another big contract. Don't be the team that hands out that big contract and you're fine.

Apparently Bob Stauffer has gone pro-Kane as a good add for the Oilers. This means the Oilers are in serious discussions with Kane as the organization typically instructs him to inject positive spin on the airwaves for incoming moves.

If any media market can spin this move in favor of the team, it's Edmonton.

Signing Kane would be such an Oilers thing to do.

Bob Stauffer knows how to smile like a doughnut for the Oilers brass when it fits the narrative.

But a happy team with a good atmosphere doesn't always mean winning. The Flames had a really happy atmosphere for a few years, that didn't work out.

The sharks made the finals in his first year with them. He was a jerk back then too. I think he's a good player and I think he can make this team better but I think he also has a shelf life. The team will improve and as soon as he starts being a distraction, you have to get rid of him.

His last stint before messing up again was 5 AHL games. I guess I would bet over that this time. I mean, he can't be that stupid, can he?

Perhaps there should be two or three tiers of contract termination terms.

The strictest level for players that get into serious criminal trouble, leaving them banned from the league. A second tier for guys like Kane, that is not just an easy cap out because of minor offences, and mostly because the team doesn't like the guy. Maybe the Kane situation isn't too worth getting riled up about as a fan of another Pacific team, because they're also losing some ok offensive production, but these situations just set precedents for other teams.

We almost saw it with DeAngelo, but NY ended up having to buy him out instead. Other situations we've seen: Leipsic; public comments. Richards, drug charge. Voynov; criminal charges. Kovalchuk; cause the Kings wanted to.

At least Chicago didn't get to terminate Hossa over an allergy. However, it seems like teams are getting out of deals too easy on occasion.

Unless you count getting additional chances within each team.

But I see no enjoyment in cheering on the downfall of another person - I think it's sad even if it's shown in the future that he deserved it - it's sad just thinking about the wasted potential and we can all change for the better and so to can he and I hope he does.

I don't actively root for and cheer on his downfall, but I also believe it's pretty clear what kind of person he is, and I don't care what happens to him, really.
Just for the fact he has paid a woman to have abortions is enough to make me not want him anywhere near the team I cheer for, no matter any of the other documented issues.

There is a lot out there on him and a lot is more than just one sided allegations.

I'm an Oiler fan and if Kane signs with them I'd be disgusted and hope they lose every single game he's with the team. I believe he's a horrible person and the team would be garbage for taking him on. simple as that.

Like the Oilers cap, he is also broke and will try and max his contract.

The Oilers will be in until their is more than one bidder.

I'm not sure I'd want the Flames to go after Kane. However, I haven't seen a single suggestion the Flames are trying. So he will probably end up here.

The allegations his ex-wife made were terrible. Since then, Kane was granted a temporary restraining order stating this person can't be within 300 feet of him and his daughter whom he has custody of. The fact the tro was granted and the fact he has custody of his daughter and the NHL never did find any thing to substantiate the allegations of abuse or gambling on the NHL leads me to certainly believe there's two sides to that particular story. He may be a dick and unliked by many. He certainly has money/gambling issues, but that didn't seem to stop everyone from loving Jagr. And, he hasn't been formally charged with anything. To me, until proven otherwise, he's simply an unliked dude. If the Flames can manage that and he helps them be a better team, I think I could accept his addition.

Did they actually? It was the last time the SJ Sharks made the playoffs, and given that Kane dropped from the #5 scoring-forward on the roster during the season to SJ's #9 scoring-forward in the playoffs I am not sure his presence on the roster can be weighed as a positive contribution in 2019 when the Sharks played in the WC Final (not in the SC Finals). Yes, he was there, but given what has happened to that team over the past couple of years, "surviving" is not really the word for it.
