Not true. Some of what he has done is illegal.

That’s not how the world works folks. Kane can be the biggest POS (in your opinion) but if he can put the puck in the net, a team will sign him. That all changes only if he does something illegal. Then personal life troubles do actually matter in pro sports.
It’s totally how the world works in many professions.

It's easy enough to say that from a couch.

People stuck in the same room probably feel differently.

It will be interesting to see what team sells out trying to get him. You have to think some teams with tight locker rooms will have informed management they don't want him.

Skill wise he checks every box this team could use up front.

So you have to weigh that against what he may do to the room. Though Im not sure a strong room would allow him to do much, if any, damage. No idea how strong this one is these days though it sure seems a whole lot better than last year anecdotally.

Not sure if I would bring him in myself, but wont be shocked nor dismayed if they do. BT and DS know that room in ways none of us can. Certainly trust their judgments on that over the online masses. Even then they could end up being wrong though.

It hurts the reputation of any team who brings him in. A team needs to decide that he's worth it.

I honestly see the Flames going after him. They need to add some skill up front and Kane provides that, they also don't have to give anything up to get him (except their soul). If this team wants to compete with the big boys, they need to get better. Kane makes them better on ice and thats what they need. I can see them trying something like this.

I can see it considering Sutter is the type of coach that won’t be messed with. You are in his page or you don’t play. Kane fits a need and does not cost an asset and would likely be close to the minimum salary.

I doubt he wants to play on Canada so I doubt he would come here if he has multiple offers

Skill, speed and toughness. As others have said exactly what we need and you don’t have to give up any assets.

But huge risk. It’ll be interesting to see what happens. I doubt the Flames will take the risk.

Yeah, if Covid protocol has been the issue, coming to Canada would just be worse.

I can see the Flames at least inquiring though. But hockey is a team game, and skilled players with selfish attitudes rarely work out for a reason. It sucks to play with them. Even their goals feel crappy because it affirms their continued selfishness. It just sinks teams.

Culture is important so yeah not sure about this.

Talent is 1000% there but he also seems to be a loose cannon.

Doubt we pick him up, the Canadian markets would eat him alive.

Could see a team like Carolina or the Panthers picking him up.

Huge pass on Kane even if he signed cheap. We've heard players say they love coming to the rink this season and care about each other. You bring in a guy with a history of being disliked in the dressing you risk it having a big negative effect on team morale.

I would have thought that NHL and the teams keep a "blacklist" that certain players won't be signed at all under any circumstances, like NFL with Colin Kaprenick (unjust or not). Or the league can refuse to register the player.

But if there are multiple teams interested in Kane and the league allows him to sign, then I guess it's everyone for themselves...

I see the pros and cons of both signing him and not. This team needs to score more goals. Plain and simple. Kane scores goals. I get there is a good "feel" with the team and players love coming to the rink. That's great, but they're not good enough. I would rather have a team that comes to "work" and gets the job done (wins) instead of a team that can all golf together during the playoffs. Guys love playing together but guys also love to win. If they think this team is close and Kane would push them to contender status, do it.

If you had the choice between winning the cup this year but Johnny leavs as a UFA and players are unhappy or have a happy team that gets bounced first round?

They do need to get better but the point is that being tight and caring about each other is part of being able to win. If you bring in someone toxic you risk them having a negative effect inside the dressing room which effects team morale which doesn't help win games.

Well these guys are tight and care about each other and they're not winning. Sure you risk screwing up the room but you also gain a better chance of winning. Is this team good enough as is to win? If the answer is no, you have to do something to improve the on ice product.

I think there are a few things that will decide if he plays this year or in the future. First is what teams have the room to handle his ego (or don't care about the room as it's a firesale). Same with a coach. A coach like Sutter could probably handle EK, but then does EK just pout and sulk all season because the room and the coach are treating him like the disobedient kid in class and his leash is too short for him to have a good time. I don't actually think any organization is "too classy" for this signing (though some are more obviously less classy eg. Montreal), so I don't think too much thought is put into how an org looks to the public if signing Kane, and lets face it, they would throw the whole "helping him back to his feet, will be supporting his family" schtick of pressers anyways. I think it will come down to, does management think they can get the production of EK while controlling his problems. Any that do, will be in on signing him, which is another big part of this equation, how much does he expect? Being that one of his issues is ego, is he willing to take league minimum, or does he tell his agent he wants what he was making or close to it? Buyout players usually are okay taking cheaper deals since they are still getting paid, but if EK's contract is terminated, he isn't getting paid. Is league minimum a "slap in the face" to a guy like EK? I would say in the end, he might just sewer himself over what he feels he is worth.
