If anything this road trip is a message to Treliving that this team needs help if they are going to do anything in the playoffs if they make it. I think Sutter has made that clear in the media that they played well but simply just are not good enough.
I think he used the words when describing the Canes pre game “they are not a one line team who relies on their goaltending and checking to win games”. That to me was a message to Treliving.

Glad to see more of these posts after years and years of trade Gaudreau and bash him to bits threads. I had to take a break from CP because I thought everyone in this place was insane. I’m just glad Treliving didn’t completely lose his mind and trade him for Konecny or Hall or some other equally underwhelming trade. Use to frustrate the hell outta me seeing the “Gaudreau has been figured” out or “lost a step” posts. Happy those days are gone.

Find a way to land Laine and build with that hope a center in the system works out and quick.

If the Flames are trying to win now, what’s the point of trading Tkachuk? He’s 1/3 of arguably the best line in the game. If I’m Treliving, im re-signing both Tkachuk and Gaudreau, keeping the top line as is and building around them.
If anything, the Flames could use another Tkachuk to help out Backlund who clearly misses him. I don’t think there’s a single player Backlund has ever had more chemistry with than Matthew.

If Chychrun is truly on the block, the Flames should absolutely go for him.
Kessel (50%) + Chychrun for Monahan, Valimaki, 2022 1st, and another solid prospect to them.

That would be done yesteryear if possible.

Just make a pitch that Monahan is a great center and show 18/19 highlights. Honestly, I think he would do well with Keller. He was just far too reliant on Gaudreau.

Still, thank for we didn’t trade for Ristolinen or Seth Jones. Woof.

Don't want Kessel this time. 4 goals in 30 plus games. Slow and he would be the anti-Sutter type player. "What me check???"

Kessel isn't slow by all means but I do agree that he isn't your typical Sutter player. He has never been the strongest two way player.

Re: Kane. I lean towards absolutely not but maybe, just maybe, this is the kick in the teeth that straightens out a guy like Kane (though I doubt it)

Huge pass on Kane, this guy does not deserve another NHL contract.

Yeah, Evander Kane needs to fade away. But I seriously doubt he will. Someone will sign him. Character isn't a priority over performance and if he can make a team better on the ice, someone will play him.

Doubt anybody will agree with me but the flames should sign Kane for rest of the year. The team needs a top 6 rw. Trades in today’s nhl are pretty nonexistent except deadline. Also with a chance that Johnny leaves for nothing at end of year , giving up what little assets flames have at deadline might not be a good idea.

That's one way of blowing up a room. Also a fine way IMO to chase off Gaudreau instead of drawing him back long term.

For me winning is the way to draw back Johnny long term . I also wouldn’t suggest it if Johnny had already signed an extension. Granted it sounds like Kane has screwed up yet again with covid protocols. Don’t think he would last long in a Canadian market if he can’t follow those basic rules.

Not that I agree with the idea but Gaudreau and the team would probably be consulted first. The coaching would also have to be on board. Your point still stands as the potential fallout could hurt a team that has become committed and very close. The plus side of our recent trip is that the Flames now know they need to focus more on adding skill. Hopefully some options at the trade deadline.
