Make fun of me all you want, knives enthusiasts, but the Bear Grylls Ultimate Pro knife is still a feel good buy for me
Aside from the full tang with a hammer on its butt and a really grippy handle, you've got on the sheath a Fire starter, sharpener, whistle, "survival guide booklet"
Price point (bought it at $100 seven years ago) was great for me too

I have that knife too. Carry matches is all I will say.

I carry an 8” kobo with me at all times (usually wood, sometimes alloy) for defence. You can do just as much damage with that as a blade and be pretty sure your opponent won’t be able to harm you as much as if they took your steel and turned it against you.

Almost surely that's illegal though? Aside from the utility (what are the odds that you need this?), Canada has a pretty restrictive view on these things.

They likely meant 'kubo', which is short for kubotan. Which is basically an 8" long steel or wood mini-club.

It's a subreddit on Reddit dedicated to knives and stuff that are more style over substance. That's not a knock, but the subreddit does take a lighter view of this sort of stuff. Kind of poking fun at it, but in a way that's enjoyable. I see the name of the subreddit was kind of blurred out by CP software because there is a swear in it, but the name is MallNinjaSh*t. People post ornate but less-than-practical knives, throwing stars, katanas...that type of stuff.

Yeah, the fire steel sucks and you should really use other stuff to start your fires, but still better than your standard magnesium strip and it should really be reserved for emergency use

I carry a Swiss Army Spartan pocket knife as an every day carry. I have a spare in my vehicle in case I forget the other one.
Scissors get used a ton for packages and especially for dang hangnails.
It's surprising how often people cannot find their corkscrew or a bottle opener and with this one I have one on hand.
Tweezer and toothpick are useful.
Short and long blade for knife things (and I actually prefer the shorter blade for basic use)
https://www.amazon.ca/Victorinox-Swi...s%2C116&sr=8-5
If I were to use this for self defense, I'd throw this thing as a projectile and run. Anyone who thinks a knife is a good defense tool is crazy. I've done enough butchering to know I do not want a memory of hot blood pouring on my hands after a scuffle. That'd be non-stop nightmares for me.

I don't partake in the EDC or hunting knives area. But what I do love is kitchen knives! Specifically Japanese knives. I always had an interest in them and received a set of Masakage Yuki (petty, nakiri and gyoto) as a 10 year company gift from the owner at the time. Before using them, I didn't know potato could be sharp.
If you like cooking and fine craftsmanship, head down to Knifewear and see what all the fuss is about. You shant be disappointed.

Username checks out. Have some Masakage's from Knifewear as well, but man, the prices are becoming unjustifiable for what you get. Similar to Japanese whiskey.

It might literally be worth buying tickets to Tokyo and going to the kitchen district.

Hah, well you don't want valuable items like that in your checked luggage so you'll have to take them in your carry-on. Surely they'll understand.

Lol yes I cannot afford nearly as many nice things as I want.
Do we really pay that much more than you would for the same knife in this Kitchen district you and Wormius speak off?
I know many brands lower end knives use more modern manufacturing, but do you have issue with the price of the knives that are "hand made"? For me, with proper care and attention, I can have these knives for most of my adult life. I see good value in that. Plus the design and finishing is usually a very nice touch (damascus steel and acid etching is some beautiful stuff).
My problem is that I want many more knives now. It's a want vs. need thing. I don't need them.

I think you might have find better access to other knife makers, maybe mid-range stuff that doesn’t get exported to North America. Depending on what’s you’re looking for - ie) something more showy that somebody preparing a dish right in front of you might use, or what a chef in the back of a kitchen or slicing up a fish in the market would be more likely to use.

I had a very nice Japanese lady for a neighbor two doors down, she passed last year but she gave me a few things and one of them was a Japanese meat cleaver. It was super nice, a little on the dull side but got that sorted out... only thing was it had a small crack on the end of the edge. I was prepping ribs one day and it broke off, which is why I bought the cold steel cleaver.
She came to the house that one day, all 4 feet of her holding this giant cleaver in the air, we had a good laugh about that.

My daily carry is basically one of the Leatherman Free K4, Leatherman Skeletool, or the Leatherman Wave in my right jeans pocket. I also have an Benchmade Osborne 940 and a Benchmade Bugout that I carry more infrequently and I end up keeping more in the kitchen knife block for food prep.

What I'll never understand is how can anyone carry tactical knives as their EDC?
how can you explain to law enforcement the type of knife you carry isnt meant for use against other humans
