Yup. Making the star the captain, is very 'peewee'

But if your star happens to have those attributes (Iggy and maybe Gio) by all means they can be captain.

Of course. But you make them captain because they have those attributes, not because they score goals.

To an extent, but there's room for nuance. Some goals ooze of a player pulling the team up emotionally when they need it most.

Gio's 3 point night here:

https://www.hockey-reference.com/box...510230CGY.html

was one that truly really stood out as "captainly". He put the team on his back that night, on a four game losing streak, and refused to let that become a five game losing streak by simply showing up and having a superstar "winning is the only option" type of night.

That's a leadership quality that a 3rd liner or stay at home D can't replicate barring flukes.

IMO Mangiapane shouldn't be the captain only because he scores goals, but combined with all the other attributes about his game, he can also score goals when the team truly needs a spark... he has that x-factor that you want in a captain.

I have been extremely impressed with Coleman. Excellent fit on the team.

Congrats Blake! Now let’s get one with a Flames logo on it.

I know people have been down on his production but among forwards...

91 shots at 5v5 rank 4th in the entire NHL.
7.7 individual expected goals 5v5 ranks 11th.
64 hits 5v5 ranks him 32nd
25 blocked shots 5v5 rank him 5th
55.3 xGF% on-ice ranks 62nd

He's been the physical, play driving 200ft forward the Flames have asked for, it's just his 5.24% on ice shooting percentage that's killing his offensive numbers.

Can't they make those rings bigger?

That, plus the fact that his line-mates aren't doing anything offensively either.

Coleman is doing exactly what was expected of him - playing a solid, physical, 200-ft game. Unfortunately, the offense hasn't been there yet, but I am not worried about it.

Yep, I think the points will come. Even without them though he's been very valuable to the team.

Am I the only one who thinks colour team logos on rings look incredibly tacky?

I would want the Stanley Cup itself to feature most prominently and leave the team crap to the sides.
Spoiler!

I have a replica Canadiens ring from the 50s and if the dimensions are accurate, it was ever thus. It’s really a little stupid getting these things that you’d never wear.

I've worn a 1989 Flames Cup ring.

It was basically a larger wedding band compared to anything modern, haha.

Personally, I am someone who think most mens' rings (i.e. signet rings or tungsten rings) are so dull and uninspired looking. Womens' rings (particularily engagement rings of different types) are just so much nicer.

What I like about championship rings in sports is that they're just about the only opportunity for male-identifying individuals to have something flashy and ostentatious. Quite frankly I would love it if a Flames championship ring were loaded with a C of padparaschas and rubies. Not tacky to me.

It's not unlike wearing a medallion on your neck... you're not supposed to wear it as a casual accessory... but it's still nice to be able to wear it to a team reunion or something.
