What some car salespeople do is offer on carcost the listed cost + 10% to anyone who comes in to see them after seeing that ad on carcost.

You may not make as much off the car, but I'm sure you'd get a lot more business from people who would prefer to avoid the whole haggling process.

I know that a salesguy at Silverhill Acura does that - too bad they're all ######s at that dealership.

new question for Tim, or anyone for that matter

I've been eyeing up a '02 Mazda 626, any problems i should know of?? (it's the V6 w/ the japanese transmission, not the 4 cylinder w/ the ford tranny)

also the price of 15900 is a big stretch for me, but i have also seen one advertised for 12000, any idea if I would be able to barter down the 15900 to 13500, or is that way too big of a stretch for the dealer??

edit: low kms at 66500, which is really good and justifies the higher price, but not 15900 high

Go to the library or bookstore and get a copy of the LemonAid Guide. It will list all problems, recalls, secret warranties ,etc associated with the car you are looking at.

Mazda's are usually good, I suspect most people are happy with this car, my Mom had an older 626 and I had a 1988 turbo 626 and they were great cars...but $15900 seems really high to me unless the car has reeaaly low KM (a car this old should probably have ~80000-100000k).

I doubt the dealer would go as low as you like (plus you have to add 6% GST back on to the price)...but that is just my opinion

They're still ######s there? Jebus. My friend tried to get his car fixed there over ten years ago and they were absolute jerks back then.

Looking for some advise.

I have a 2002 Alero 4 door 3.4L V6. It is in pretty good shape no dents or rust clean on the inside. It has new rubber and new rotors and brake pads. And has had no mechanical problems. I will replace the windshield before I trade it because it has a few cracks.

I am going to use this car as a trade in on a new vehicle. What should I expect to get for this car? I know it is probably less than what I would get if I was to sell it myself.

You are probably better off selling it on your own, but if you want to go with the dealership, one thing I heard is to not even mention you plan on trading one in, negotiate the price of the car you want to buy first, then once that is set, negotiate the price of your trade-in.

Do the prices they advertise in the paper include delivery and freight?

Tim,

I just had my '02 ML320 in for it's B servicing (Hyatt downtown) and they told me that beyond the servicing that it needs about $2200 worth of work. This is what the dealer quoted.

How much cheaper can I expect my quote to be if I take it to an independent mechanic, and can you recommend a good one who services Mercedes?

*Edit just realized you're not in Calgary...you may not know a good local mechanic

99% of the time no.. They are trying to keep the price as low as possilbe in the ads.. Generally they do not include any add ons.

I was wondering what the value of my car might be. It is a 2000 Chrysler Intrepid and has about 115,000 kms on it. Any idea what it might be worth? Also what is the best way to get an estimated value of cars?

Thanks

looking at selling my '03 Blazer. 2 door ZR2 package stereo system very good condition with 73,000 KM's. What can I expect to get for it and I heard that values of Blazers are going back up because they are a popular vehicle and no longer available is this true?
