You miss my point, the state allowing a behaviour in Russia that is banned here doesnt mean they have more or any freedom, you can get drunk and get arrested on a bus here, go to court and get a fine, you can also spark up a joint or start telling the other passengers you think the Liberals are corrupt and need to be booted out, try that in Moscow

I’m fairly sure they’d take a relaxed attitude if you badmouthed the Liberals in Moscow.

Vaping is not considered smoking in Russia, you can vape basically anywhere there.

Obviously not an excuse when you're not in Russia.

Not Russian freedoms, but the Russians level of GAF, which is rooted in their culture. We all wish we could go back to not walking on eggshells around the looming pandemic and it showed in the brutality of the responses here. That's what I was calling out.

Note I did say it was indecent, ####y and dumb in multiple posts.

People sure love to run with their own narratives here rather than ask for clarification.

You couldn't pay me any sum of money large enough to live out my days in Russia. #### that place.

Regardless of what they were used to in Russia, when they were told not to vape etc. On the plane, they should have been smart enough to comply. They should have realized that the failure to comply with the orders of the people in charge would not end well.

When I was in St Petersburg there were gorgeous models handing out free cigarettes outside transit stations (I think the van said Pall Mall). Of course there was a huge crowd around. It was 25 years ago but I was shocked there were no laws against it, there probably still aren’t. I’ve never smoked but with that kind of encouragement I’m not surprised.

Same thing happened to me in LA, except the gorgeous models were recruiting for the Church of Scientology. Free Personality test they claim lol

There is clearly a bit of emotional charge and snideness in responses here.
"care-free recklessness"??? that's actually hilarious.

The feisty phase of CP continues.

Was wondering how this topic became three pages, didn't see an argument about cultural freedom of Eastern Europe vs North America!

I think it’s just teens/young adults acting out. It’s stupid, but I wouldn’t judge all Russians based on it. New Years for Russians is also like Christmas for Canadians and then some… it’s the biggest holiday of the year. I’m sure they were pissed about spending it on a plane because their tournament was canceled. I bet they were of the opinion they should’ve stayed home.

That said, it doesn’t excuse their behaviour. They disrupted the flight, and will have to deal with the consequences. Hopefully it will be a learning experience for them.

That's typically how a message board works. A person says something and people interpret their point. If you didn't make your point clear enough in the two posts you made that's not anyone else's fault.

But no, I am not envious of these Russian teenagers lack of GAF on this flight. At no time before or during the pandemic have I had the urge to vape, smoke, harass attendants, or blare The Tragically Hip and delay a flight.

That's not a cultural thing. That's just being a group of a-holes.

drunk idiots on public transit is nothing new. You can't act like a dip#### at the airport or on a plane these days or this is what happens. Hope they enjoyed the extra night in Calgary at their own expense only to tuck tail today and follow all the rules or spend yet another night at your own expense. Way to stick it to the man!
You can smoke on...'The Money Plane!'

I wouldn’t judge all Russians either, but it wasn’t just players involved. The coach was in it as well.

They got on Grigor Andelov's private plane where vaping was allowed.

The vaping likely was an inconvenience, but the Russian metal music got their ass thrown off that plane.

They build them different in Russia.

Have you guys seen these quotes yet from Zadorov? He's not totally wrong here ... I was going to start a thread on it but maybe it suits this one too.
