7 points for Coleman and 9 points for Backlund in 29 is a far more glaring. They are still quite good at not "hurting" you, but at 5 mil apiece those two need to bring more around the opposing team's net. Lucic is handily outperforming them on that side of the puck.
Good thing is I think they can only get better from here, and we're still managing wins and points in the meantime.

I'm very underwhelmed by Coleman's game. For a 5 million dollar player, he's largely unnoticeable in most games (and not in a good way).

Objectively? Come on. That word isn't in your vocabulary. You're a guy who falls in and out of love with players and won't seem them for the talents they have and the holes in their games. It's all or nothing with you. Love or hate.
If Monahan was as bad as you suggest, he wouldn't be getting #1 PP time. Sutter would bury him in the press box and move on. I think it's hilarious that Monahan continues to be a target on this team while Backlund is still floating around the ice doing next to nothing game-to-game. I would like to see these two centers flipped for a series of games and see if it can get either of them untracked. The Flames need another scoring threat.

Never understood white knighting millionaires and professional sports franchises. It makes for good reading but it's baffling. These guys accept that criticism comes with the territory I'd imagine. The ones that don't, well, they're kind of soft if they let some online comments get under their skin. They were probably mommied to death as a child and think the world owes them something. Well, that does describe many of Gen Z actually... lol

The Monahan/Bennett thing is also disingenuous because Bennett has played 4 less games and contributes WAY more physically.

Which poster was it who said Bennett would be in the KHL after his last contract? or those who said he wouldn't be protected by Florida in the expansion draft?
classic CP.

Yeah, I really wanted to give Coleman the benefit of the doubt, but it's starting to look more and more like he's just going to be a depth guy, and not a difference maker.
Good (or bad?) news is that he has lots of time to try to prove himself.

How would having Kadri (6th in league scoring?) right now as the 2C be..

Oh man, there would need to be a pretty significant bounce back for that to happen. That or all the good players leave this summer and the Flames are desperate to get to the floor.
Monahan is very much on the Kyle Turris path right now. The Oilers gave him two years at 1.9 and today he can't even crack their weak lineup.
It will depend on what the Flames need cap wise this summer. If they need cap space they have to add to move his contract. If they can absorb money, they likely can package him to get a good player plus a long term cap dump.
I personally don't see him ever cracking 20 goals or 50 points again. But I could be wrong. At best I think he might get 12 goals and 40 points this year, and that's likely high water from this point out

He is coming back from surgery and on an upward trend since the start of the season.
Saying he's on a Turris trajectory is premature.
But that's how many CP posters roll. Benefit of the doubt to outside players or ones who have left, and only doubt to current players who are just having some struggles, and in Monahan's case, ones that are definitely justified given the circumstance.

He has 4 goals and is -10. He has no value aside from putting him on the pp. And the only reason they give him that is to try to get some value out of that deal.
If he was a Ufa we just signed, the knives would be out from everyone. People give him the benefit of the doubt because of his name pretty much. He's bad.

Which outside players am I giving benefit of the doubt to?
Monahan had 1 goal and 4 points in his first 10 games after being pointless in his first 5. Than 1 goal and 5 points in the next 10 and 2 goals and 5 points in his last 9. For me the sample size is not big enough to definitively say he's trending up. In 10 game increments the production is looking pretty consistent. If we could throw out those first 5 games, there really does not appear to be a defining upward trend in production. If anything he is going down again as he had 7 in the first 10 after that 5 game opening stretch and has 7 in the last 14.
To me he looks like a guy struggling to find a role 5 on 5 as when they give him better linemates and more ES time he seems to revert to a guy who gets beat consistently. Put him on the 4th line and they don't have guys who produce much to play him with.
His PP production in terms of points per game would have him on pace for one of his best years of his career to date.

want to compare ice time and line mates?
Because Bennett has been on the ice more despite less games
besides nobody was saying Monahan was better...just that their scoring stats are surprisingly similar considering how some people act around here

Offensively I would agree. I do like his defensive game. He’s pretty responsible. Doesn’t make any glaring mistakes and is usually in the right position.
But yeah, at his price point you’re going to want a lot more.

I'm hoping that if we end up making the playoffs, he'll be a bit of a secret weapon.

Looks like we replaced Bennett, for 4.9 AAV.

Yes I do, it is the fanboys who don't. There is a reason Sutter has him on the 4th line. Of course they are going to play him on the 1st PP, they are trying to move him and have been trying for a couple of years now, they need to get him points somehow and on the PP is the only way to do that where he isn't hurting the team.
