It had its moments, but I didn't find it particularly funny or witty. It was also too on the nose than i would have expected.
I got "Fast Food Nation" vibes from it.
I shut it off after the TV interview scene; kind of over Adam Mackay's cocaine fueled style of directing. The Big Short was brilliant, Vice was okay, Don't Look Up was tough. Maybe I'll go back and finish it but the only laugh I got was Mark Rylance's character saying "no" to the little girl asking the scripted question. Jonah Hill isn't funny.
The premise sounds fine but man was I bored watching it.
It’s a weird one. I really enjoyed it but I also fell asleep for 20-30 minutes in the middle and the last 10-15 was not good. But I still feel like I enjoyed it. Weird.

Watched 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time. The cinematography and practical effects are phenomenal especially considering the time period it was made in. However I felt the movie moved a bit too slow in parts. I was in awe of the visuals of the film more than anything else tbh

2001 a space oddysey… you think it was moving slow?
I'll echo that Don't Look Up wasn't that good. It was great in parts, but really needed some stronger editing and a tighter script. I fast forwarded through a lot of parts (do we really need to watch Leo and Kate talk in bed for 10 minutes?) and it still felt too long. It was also trying to straddle the line of satire and real social commentary but didn't do either strongly enough

There is a notice on cineplex.com that food is take out only, but that's only under the Chinook location info for some reason. Seems strange they're the only location, was planning on hitting Matrix tonight but of course they're not answering the phone.
Due to recent government orders, we are operating at a reduced building capacity and food & beverage is available for Take Out only. We follow guidelines set forth by all levels of government including proof of vaccination requirements and mandatory masking. Additional measures like reserved seating, enhanced cleaning and safety signage have also been implemented to keep you safe. Visit the VenueSafe page on Cineplex.com for more information on vaccination requirements and our safety protocols.
Not even close. BR is slower than a lot of sci-fi but 2001 takes it to a level no one else has come close to. It took me 2 or 3 times to get through it. Beautiful movie but painfully slow.
4+ minutes just to dock the ship?!?!

Haha, I was just thinking about that one as people complained about slow films. Go watch anything from the 70's, you might be in for a surprise.
But also, Barry Lyndon is famous for its use of all natural light for every single scene. I won't bore people with how impossible that is, but trust me, it's a herculean task to make an entire film with natural light.
Here's the famous scene lit only by candlelight. From the youtube clip description:
Quote:
This is an infamous scene fully lit by candlelight from Stanley Kubrick's film Barry Lyndon. The shot was possible due to a camera Kubrick acquired from NASA capable of shooting in such low light.

Are you kidding? I hit play on this just to watch it again. Absolutely gorgeous.
Edit: And it cuts off before the docking shot? The shot of the Pan Am Space Clipper and the station rotating in sync is mint.

There's definitely a pace to older movies that overall is much slower. Doesn't make them bad, I find myself much more engaged in long shots done right than a bunch of quick edits.
I think shots like that are of its time too. They were clearly showing off what they could do at the time, special effects wise. It's a beautiful shot and i bet it was ahead of its time when released. Now, people can do that on their laptops.
Go watch Logan's Run and then read about how that filmed was absolutely praised for its special effects at the time. It's laughable now
If you look at a current movie, like dune with its extra long panoramic shots, they look amazing! Will they in 30 years?
