Interesting lines. I'm sure it's an attempt to get some balanced scoring but I will be surprised if that Dube line stays as is. Lucic will be swapped with Mangiapane soon enough.

Monahan is a real challenge to slot in appropriately. You would love to give him some linemates that can handle the puck, but he struggles in his own zone so that without some strong defenders on his line, they will just get caved in far too often. He still has good hands and offensive instincts but doesn't have the skating, motor or attention to detail defensively to elevate his line. I still think Coleman is the best winger to pair him with, just need another winger or two up the lineup in order to push Coleman down.

I'm not going to pretend to be smarter than Sutter but I am not a fan of Lucic or Ritchie playing up the lineup.

regarding the lines, which are certainly a hodge podge, I suppose it is possible too that different guys are in different stages of their recovery fitness wise etc, not sure if that would impact slotting at all

Didn't Mangiapane, Dube and Ritchie dominate before Ritchie got hurt?

Really small sample size, but that might be the thinking.

But I don't like Lucic in the top six.

IIRC Dube and Mangiapane dominated. Mangiapane was top 5 in scoring, and Ritchie never registered a point.

I really like Dube and Mangiapane together, feels like a really fast, annoying line to play against. Ritchie’s job will be to hit somebody and go to the net. I don’t mind it. A little more skill with them would be good, but I think it would be servicable.

I'm not totally opposed to Looch in the top 6. He's worked his butt off so far and although slower than some, he's worked hard to make up for that in other ways. Not sure that positioning will stay, but maybe it's a bit of a carrot/bonus for him?

The only difference in those lines from the start of the season is Richardson in and Pitlick out.

Lucic takes the spot that Pitlick occupied.

Based on random comments throughout the season from Sutter, he prefers Dube at center for his speed.

Creates a weird slotting thing for Monahan though.

So when are they expected to play again? I'm out of the loop a bit but itching for some flames hockey.

This team was winning pretty consistently with this kind of set up. These lines might not work for every style of play but they worked for the Flames and hopefully they'll work again.

No worries, we have a full lineup…

Some team is going to ice something similar to what the raptors did last night

What a joke, they should have just mailed it in

I say they focus on transitioning Moneyhands into a Jame Neal / Patrik Laine type hybrid............or I may have had too much egg nog 🥃

Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Coleman-Backlund-Monahan
Lucic-Dube-Mangiapane
Ritchie-Richardson-Lewis

Not the way I see it.

If a trio spends most of their time generating more shots attempts and chances than the opposition, all three get credit for it.

But honestly before this turns into a rabbit hole, I'm not suggesting it's a good idea to go with Ritchie in the top nine.

But given their success in a small sample size I could see the logic in looking at it again.

I feel like the 4th line is not really the best use of Monahan. Perhaps we should move on from him and get someone more suited for 4th line duties?
