NHL, NHLPA finalize CBA exemptions to give teams COVID-19 roster relief
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...er-protection/
Quote:
GOALTENDERS: Teams will be allowed to add an additional goalie when two regulars are not available. This is in place for the rest of the season
EMERGENCY CAP EXEMPTION: From here on in, teams in danger of dressing fewer than two goalies, six defencemen or 12 forwards for a game will be able to make emergency recalls. The cap hit of any such player cannot exceed $1-million.
TAXI SQUADS: These are in-place until the All-Star Break, for now. Teams don’t have to use them; maximum of six players; no one can be on it more than 20 days. There are some eligibility requirements. You can’t be on it if you're on an NHL roster as of Dec. 22 (with the exception of emergency recall); are waiver-exempt; were on the NHL roster for at least 75 per cent of the regular-season days or played in 16 of a team’s last 20 games through Dec. 22 (goalies who dressed but did not play is counted as having “played”).
Taxi squad players can practice and travel with the NHL team. Compensation is AHL-level pay with a stipend of $500 (US) each day they are on it.

Good on the league for being pro-active and addressing this. It looks like we'll still be dealing with covid going forwards for at least the remainder of this season and playoffs.

I think we’ll Wolf and Pelletier recalled before the Flames next game.

Yep. I'm sure there might be some benefit to having Wolf around the pros, but I think it's so much better to just having him play as many games as possible.

Guys like Werner, Froese, Gawdin, Gravel...
Players likely not going to play much, if at all. If they do, they will in limited roles.

All coming out of the players share of revenue, so should probably thank the players for agreeing to it.

I do give the league credit for stopping the season and not just plowing through like the NBA and NFL. Ridiculous games like the Raptors yesterday playing with guys they signed like 3 days ago or football games like Washington last week starting a QB they signed 4 days before the game just make a mockery of the league being anything but a money making venture. Who wants to watch a game with a team missing half of their players.

They're both exempt from waivers, so they can't go on the taxi squad.
Flames don't have a single active goalie in the organization eligible for taxi duty.

Yeah i was just spitballing, but it would be silly not to find somebody and use the provided protection now made available.
Maybe a guy like Jeff Glass who i have no idea if he is still playing or not.
Has to be some vet guys out there looking for one more kick at things.
Better gig than riding buses all year for some.

If anyone is looking to coax him back you’d have to think it would be Tampa as insurance

Stockton recalled G Daniil Chechelev, as per ECHL Transactions page.
Meaning one of Wolf or Werner is to be elevated to the NHL Taxi squad.

As noted on Twitter, the "ineligible" categories were basically just built to exclude waiver exempt NHL regulars from being placed on taxi squad for cap purposes.
Essentially everyone of note in the Flames system remains eligible.

Is the 20 day limit for taxi squad cumulative or at a stretch?
