Should prove a good opportunity to add to our more playoff wins in that building than Edmonton.

Why? It’s not like they’re fighting for their lives or anything. Time to start living with it. It’s not going away.

Not sure if this was mentioned or not during the pages of petulance by so many, but this speaks volumes as to any idea of cancelling the season or heading to a bubble:
Quote:
The NHL is implementing enhanced protocols through at least Jan. 7, sources told ESPN Wednesday.
The decision comes after the NHL, NHLPA and their doctors held conference calls on Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon, following a rash of COVID-19 cases across the league.
Under the enhanced protocols -- which NHL players experienced all of last season -- players will be tested daily instead of every third day, according to sources. All team personnel will be required to wear face masks at facilities, meetings will be held virtually, and everyone will be asked to limit all social interactions outside of the hotel, rink or home. The NHL currently has only one player who is not vaccinated, Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi.
The NHL has recommended the booster shot, and many players have already received it. However the league does not intend to mandate a booster shot at this time, sources tell ESPN.
Under the new protocols, players cannot dine indoors on the road. They are also asked to social distance while inside the facilities. COVID-19 testing moves from once every three days to daily, though players do not have to get tested on off days.

Also, Friedman on Hockey Central confirms the Flames are indeed dealing with the Omnicron strain.

And just announced that the Canucks flight to SJ is not leaving yet (6 local time) as reports of positive tests are coming out.

Err, sure nobody has died yet but it has already been career ending for at least one NHL player. Not to mention if you are in the playoffs and half your roster is out with a covid variant, how are you supposed to compete?
In any case, it sure looks like the Omicron variant is decimating professional sports right now.

It was as rescheduled to leave at 6pm to allow them to get additional testing in before boarding.
However, there is an expectation of an announcement for four additional positive tests.

Have the announced the players symptoms at all?
I know there’s lots of reporting on numbers. But what are the actual consequences to the players. I guess did any of them even know they had it?
In the interview with Treliving it didn’t sound too severe.

If Omicron can rip through our entire locker room like it did, I think ALL pro sports teams and leagues need to take note.
The next question is whether any other teams — who played the Flames recently and those who didn’t — experience the same kind of outbreak. Only a few cases so far for Boston but they’ve practiced and played since Saturday (as well as the flight home).

Seems to be pretty mild impact. Wonder if they will shutdown the league.

Another question is probably whether the impacts are worth the alarm.
It doesn’t seem like the impacts are very severe at all.

I believe the difference in countries is playing a role. Teams with outbreaks in US playing. But Calgary doesn’t fly to the Us and Vancouver not going to SJ. Ontario limiting attendance. I believe governments and their protocols will have a huge impact on what happens in the coming weeks and months.

According to some Twitter dude the 6-8 ended up being staff but that doesn’t really answer why they boarded the flight. Shouldn’t matter if it’s staff/players I mean look at Calgary atm.

Friedman said today he wouldn’t be surprised if the NFL lowered standards to return to play, the opposite of tightening restrictions.
He went on to say he thinks NHL and NBA teams would want to follow suit. Let guys back sooner if they’re asymptomatic. Except that might be a more difficult proposition in Canada.

That's the right thing to do. Can't wait until that happens. And I'm not just talking about inside professional sports.
