The NHL testing protocols released before the season:

RT-PCR at least every 72 hours for vaccinated players with accommodations to avoid testing on player's days off as much as possible.

RT-PCR every day for unvaccinated players (Tyler Bertuzzi)

There was supposed to be a meeting in November to discuss increasing or decreasing the frequency of testing, but IIRC Friedman reported that they decided not to make any changes.

With the apparently more transmissible Omicron variant, you'd have to expect there are going to be a lot more positive tests in the near future and more cancelled games across the NHL. Bye bye Olympics if that's the case.

Well this sucks. Let's hope for a speedy recovery and for everyone to remain healthy. The game on the 16th, if it happens, might look like an AHL lineup.

They aren't playing on the 16th, Saturday at the earliest

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but of the six players that have been named so far, what are the requirements for them to participate in Saturday's game or is there a minimum quarantine period?

I believe if they didn’t cancel the games, the Flames would have had to play 1 game short of players. After that 1 game, they could call up any player who has a cap hit of less than 850k. So Valimaki, Mackey, Petterson, Zary or Pelletier wouldn’t actually be able to play from what Ryan Pike is tweeting.

If true all are asymptomatic, there must have been some reason for someone to get a test.
As I understand it, per NHL protocol, tests are every 3 days, not random. Flames will now be tested daily.

Ugh. That source could make sense, or anywhere else on their latest road trip

No problem. The Flames can make up these games during what would have otherwise been the Olympic break.

That’s a bummer. Guess we have a few nights off now. Really hope this doesn’t postpone the Kraken game next week.

I think if they have so many negative tests in a certain amount of days then they can play as long as they aren't showing symptoms?

Not sure where I got that from. Maybe my mind is making it up?

Notably, there are some key players missing from Bruins practice today, too. Our guys in Boston will update as they find out more as well.
