1. General consistency and mental fortitude on a game-by-game basis
2. Goaltending (both Markstrom and Vladar). Heck, the prospects too
3. Mangiapane and Kylington
Frustrations:
1. Coleman's contract
2. O.T deployment of players
3. Zary has been underwhelming
I guess I'm thankful that the Flames have had very few injuries. Back in the Brent Sutter days, players, especially defensemen, were injured left and right.
He has 3 points and a -6 in 10 games after having 7 in 9 last year.
I ranked Zary ahead of Pelletier before the beginning of the season, but obviously that's since changed. Credit to Pelletier of course.
Positives
-team is winning
-team is gelling
- we should? Make playoffs?
Negatives....
Home record (performance)
Goal production
What will this team do when the playoffs begin?
We have an 82 game practice to get to the real season and make some noise, do some damage but we need to remember what we've learned and keep doing it .
I've been patient with this team for over 40 years now and nothing is more disheartening then them setting themselves up for success and then just piissing it all away in under 7 games .
Please for the love of Gene Principes mullet let's make this year different and honor Darryls unfinished business plan....that .....would make this Flames fan happy.
Positives:in general the biggest thing is the call to bring Sutter back was the right one.
1. Team record and stats. First place, solid goal differential, advanced stats, special teams all pointing to being a top team
2. Entertainment value. This has been a fun team to watch and exceeded expectations. They play fast, score off the rush, and defend extremely well.
3. Farm team/prospects looking good. Pelletier, Wolf, Vlader, Coronato all look really solid. The Heat are a top team being lead by young players. Cupboards are not as bare as they have been portrayed to be in recent years.
Negatives
1. Missing out on Eichel. This team really needed to overspend to make this deal happen but they couldn’t or wouldn’t get it done. Now this team has him in the division in addition to McDavid. This team is all in so landing a number 1 C to pair with Lindholm down the middle would have made the Flames a contender for years
2. Cap situation/future. The 3 big contracts for left shooting wingers the flames need to shell out this summer are going to be tough to fit in. Gaudreau could walk, Tkachuk can put himself in a position. To do the same this summer and Mangiapane is shooting 30%. I think it is tough to add long term pieces due to these looming contracts. Monahan, Lucic, Backlund, Coleman take up a big chunk of the cap and are all varying degrees of overpaid.
3. Dube/Valimaki struggling. I still think both can turn it around this year but I would t be opposed to seeing what these 2 could get in a change of scenery trade. I have really high hopes for these 2 and while Mangiapane and Kylington have thrived under Sutter.
Bonus positive is the bounce back from Markstrom
Bonus negative is continued struggles of Monahan
3. The fact that the team is 15-6-6, in 1st place in their division, 2nd in the conference, and I am 0-6 when watching them live. I haven’t seen them win live in nearly 2 years. Come on man!
you were supposed to leave in the intermission!!!

Too much wasted cap space
Lack of high end prospects
Quiet building
Ugly fans
Bad colour commentary for many games

For the amount of talent on the roster, the team is doing great.
The two measly slumps so far have been way less painful than any in years past. Team has a high floor. Good teams still lose 30 games in a season, what's important is keeping losing streaks short and still playing the right way for the most part, which we have.
With our talent level, we have to will & work for more goals than some. It makes sense that there would be nights where our efforts don't translate to the scoreboard as well as we'd like.
Darryl can get you to play the right way, but he can't lend you goal scoring talent. Thems the breaks until we bring in another piece or two.
Negatives:
1. Unresolved FA statuses for core players. But that'll sort itself out in the wash. They aren't going anywhere this year unless they completely collapse.
2. Forward depth. They can do better and make some savvy moves, they're out there, those kind of moves
3. CP specific. The absolute infatuation with the Oilers around here. I get it talking about them in OOT or the dedicated thread. But a Flames GT? And then I'm.ediately whine about how the media doesn't stop talking about them incessantly. Yer just as bad as they are! I hate the Oilers, hate them so much I question some of your loyalty with how much you talk about them. /rant.
Positives:
1. Goaltending. It's thing of beauty this year. Vladar is awesome. Love the trade. Maybe trade of the year.
2. Kylington. Patiently waiting for his shot has paid off and he's having a hell of a start as a full time regular.love his skating. And how 98 percent of potential odd man rushes are negated by his hustle.
3. Best start in recent history. As a pretty gloomy fan walking into this season. I've been pleasantly surprised by how much pluck and grit they have. Even qhen they lose they're in it till the very end. You cannot say that about this core from previous years. So ppl will lose their Gourdes after every loss but they're playing good hockey and they have a chance every singe night. Thats good for watching.

Fixing #1 would have made #2 an unmitigated disaster. It's a bit odd to be complaining about both.
Instead of having an elite franchise number 1 C we get to sign 3 left shot wingers to be our top 3 highest paid forwards. Adding Eichel would have made signing all 3 players impossible. There would have been a run this year and then you hope Johnny stays and you see if you can sign Mangiapane and then move Tkachuk for futures to a team he is willing to negotiate with long term.
How is it odd complaining about both? This is the position the team is in. Eichel did not happen but right now our 3 of our top 4 forwards need to be signed. Building on the wing is the only option right now as this is the position the team is in.

I'll be the sun to your moon.
Vegas has to butcher their team for Eichel
Top ten forward in Johnny
Selke candidate in Lindholm
Best goaltending in a decade

Cute retro building to match our retro unis
New building looking better everyday
Ball and Hrudey's chummy humour
Above McTeam in the standings
They're in every game
Collecting points in losses
Great metrics in every category
Top 5 special teams
Edit: Though can't do anything about the ugly fans.

I know that you'll appreciate the fact that there's a Simpsons quote for everything, just like the bolded.
"class after class of ugly, ugly children"
